Cary's Citizen 's Convenience Center accepts residential solid waste, recycling, food waste and yard waste for proper disposal. We are seeking a knowledgeable, customer-focused individual for our Convenience Center Attendant position. This position is responsible for performing routine manual work assisting customers and managing the collection process at the Convenience Center. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Solid Waste Operations Coordinator and/or the Team Leader.

Greets citizens and directs them to the appropriate site to drop materials;
Inspects incoming loads for hazardous waste;
Answers questions from citizens on solid waste and recycling rules and regulations;
Distributes informational materials about the center;
Ensures the safety of citizens while on the grounds of the center;
Responds to problems and complaints at the Convenience Center;
Assists customers, as needed, with the unloading of materials;
Operates specialized equipment assigned to the center;
Maintains paperwork for white goods and other billable items so citizens can be invoiced;
Keeps Convenience Center clean and picked up;
Ensures all spills are contained and clean up in the prescribed manner;
Makes minor repairs around Convenience Center as needed;
Monitors materials dropped in the Convenience Center to ensure hazardous materials are not dropped;
Keeps supervisors informed on the status of the transfer station on a daily basis;
Performs other job-related tasks as required.

Considerable knowledge of the types of materials that can and cannot be dropped in the center; skill at operating a skid steer loader; ability to perform continuous heavy manual work at a steady pace and under various weather conditions; ability to direct a constant flow of trucks and citizens to appropriate locations safely; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to communicate effectively with the public; ability to observe materials being dumped and make judgments on their appropriateness; ability to work independently.
A combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED and 1-3 years of experience working in the solid waste and/or recycling collection field.
