What are the responsibilities and job description for the WATERFRONT LIFEGUARD position at Town of Fairfield?
Waterfront Lifeguards staff the six public beaches in the Town of Fairfield. Lifeguards work under the direction of the Waterfront Director, Assistant Waterfront Directors, and Beach Captains to ensure the general safety of guests at the waterfront. The Waterfront Lifeguards for the Town of Fairfield maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and while promoting and maintaining safe waterfront swimming conditions in accordance with the Town of Fairfield policies and procedures.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Scanning and maintaining safety on the waterfront.
- Takes shifts on the lifeguard chair, scanning the water, enforcing rules, and answering questions posed by patrons on the beach; perform first aid as necessary.
- Maintains physical presence, remains alert at all times while on duty, maintains constant visual attention to swimmers, and remains aware of all surroundings in designated area.
- Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with Town of Fairfield policies and procedures; completes related reports as required.
- Knows, follows, and enforces all Town of Fairfield Waterfront Lifeguard policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Follows all aquatic procedures and guidelines including those pertaining to health and safety, forms, reports, and staff expectations as required by the Town of Fairfield and the state health department code.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. Clean and store equipment per branch procedures.
- Attends all mandatory meetings and trainings.
- Maintain highest level of customer service.
- Maintain visible presence on waterfront regularly interact with & engage guests.
- Help maintain the cleanliness of waterfront areas, pavilions, locker rooms.
- Help teach, promote, assist swim lessons as or with swim instructors Scanning and maintaining safety on the waterfront.
- Must hold current/valid Red Cross certificates in Waterfront Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional rescuer and First Aid.
- Top candidates will additionally hold current/valid Red Cross Certifications Water Safety Instruction and/or valid Red Cross Instructorship to teach Waterfront Lifeguarding.
- Must be 16 years old of age.
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) preferred/recommended.
- Must have general availability from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Must have knowledge of when individual summer season employment needs to end before hiring.
