Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the Database Administrator position.
The Database Administrator role is to serve as a subject matter expert and perform tasks that contribute to the organization's use of data-driven decisions. Daily activities include the design and maintenance of the Town of Gilbert’s Data environments that support and align with the organization’s data governance efforts, to promote data quality, security, and accessibility, as well as DBA best practices and strategies. The role will serve as a liaison to the Data Analytics team and be responsible for maintaining and improving the data infrastructure used for reporting within the Town.
Key responsibilities include:
Designing, implementing, and optimizing database schemas and queries.
Collaborating with other team members to define data standards, identify gaps and map new reporting data sets.
Mapping new data sets and sources into predefined data models or developing new data models as needed while ensuring data integrity.
Building and validating pipelines to administer internal and external datasets into the Town’s data lake.
Providing up-to-date documentation, descriptions, and workflow diagrams for the Town’s data lake.
Developing and implementing data management policies, procedures, and standards to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.
Define and document standards, frameworks and reference architectures.
Work closely with other teams to deliver new environments and resolve problems related to existing infrastructure.
Determine database structural requirements by analyzing client operations, applications, and programming; review objectives with clients; evaluate current systems.
Develop database solutions by designing proposed system; define database physical structure and functional capabilities, security, back-up, and recovery specifications.
Manage systems for reporting and data acquisition.
Provide insight into the changing database storage and utilization requirements for the company and offer suggestions for solutions.
Analyze database implementation methods to make sure they are in line with company policies and any external regulations that may apply.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, using initiative to anticipate needs in areas of responsibility.
Ability to work with business and development teams to convey the value of enterprise data modeling, data quality and data governance practices.
Additional responsibilities include analyzing system requirements, designing data models, and assisting in the Town’s data migration, to ensure that it aligns with enterprise best practices. Experience in using Matillion for data transformation and ELT processes to include end-to-end data ingestion into a data lake environment such as Snowflake is a plus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or other technically relevant area
5-7 years of experience with information technology programs and services, with demonstrated expertise in enterprise data management and related technologies.
Experience with enterprise data management technologies, including database platforms, ETL tools, and SQL.
Understanding of API's
Knowledge of Project Management/Agile development methodology and concepts.
Demonstrated ability in managing data lifecycle processes and implementing data governance policies.
Extensive experience with data modeling, ELT design, and data integration techniques.
Familiarity with BI tools and data management software.
This position is an At-Will and is FLSA Exempt – ineligible for overtime compensation.
This department is working in a hybrid environment, with remote work. Modified work privileges are approved at the sole discretion of the department director; as such, the department reserves the right to modify or discontinue modified work arrangements at any point. Work location Onsite & Remote (Hybrid) Town of Gilbert employees are required to reside in the state of Arizona by hire date.
