THE OPPORTUNITY
The Victim Advocate provides victims of crime or crisis with information concerning their rights and provides emotional and social support in an effort to reduce the victim’s physical and emotional suffering.
This is a part-time position with a hiring rate of $33.26 per hour.
JOB SUMMARY
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assesses victim needs and provides intervention, comfort, and/or referral to supportive agencies and for other services
- Provides victim follow-up contact or initiates outreach contact
- Acts as a liaison between victim and investigators or patrol officers
- Advises victim of the court process
- Educates victims on their mandated rights
- Provides victim with case status
- Assists with education of police personnel regarding victim/witness services
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree in human services, social work, or a directly related field or two (2) years related college level course work preferred but not required.
- Bilingual Spanish speaking skills highly desirable
- Previous experience working in a law enforcement agency highly desirable
- Minimum 21 years of age
- Valid Colorado driver’s license with good driving record
- High level of discretion and ability to keep information confidential
- Self-motivated individual and ability to work under minimal supervision
- Be able to respond to a variety of different locations
- Ability to be available for on-call service with a response time of 1 hour or less
