The starting pay for this position is from $53,667 to $63,136 depending on qualifications; full salary range is $53,667 to $85,350.Code Enforcement Inspector - Inspections Department This is an entry-level position with the Inspections Department. This position secures compliance with Municipal Health, Life & Safety Regulations governing the conditions of all properties and premises through regular inspection cycles so that they are maintained in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition. These duties are performed through the administration and enforcement of the Town's Municipal Code with emphasis on the zoning and property maintenance codes. This position involves extensive public contact, interpreting and enforcement codes and informing citizens, property owners, property managers and tenancies of code violations and the means to achieve compliance. This position is also responsible to serve on the Town's Neighborhood Action Team, and participate in neighborhood meetings related to housing or property maintenance matters. New or unusual situations are referred to the Director of Inspections, but employees generally work independently and are responsible for independent decisions requiring technical judgment. This position reports to the Director of Inspections.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs scheduled rental multiple-family housing inspections in coordination with property owners or property managers. This includes recognizing general zoning, building, fire, HVAC, electric, plumbing, and fire protection code deficiencies.Prepares notifications of violations and complaints and the corresponding deadlines to correct violations. This includes notice of violation, field inspection records and corresponding actions such as ordinance violations, tickets, confirmation of compliance and licenses.Advises and counsels affected property owners on actions necessary to come into compliance with Code requirements and conducts final inspections.Serves as the principle contact for residents filing housing complaints with the Town.Monitors and/or responds to citizen complaints regarding private property matters as required by the municipal code (i.e. trash, debris, weed growth, inoperable vehicles, vehicle parking (including trailers, RV’s), graffiti, illegal dumping, animal regulations, improper sign placement, and snow removal). Reviews all Municipal Codes related to the annual inspection program and recommends appropriate revisions as necessary; reviews IPMC as published every three years. Presents information to the Building Board of Appeals to consider recommendations for adoption by the Town Council.Prepares, studies and reports housing trends and provides similar information as requested. Prepares a summary of statistics of work performed to be included in the monthly and annual department reports. Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Graduation from high school or GED. Basic knowledge of fundamental property maintenance and general construction codes is helpful. Customer service and policy interpretation experience is preferred; or other training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
