The Town of Telluride is seeking to hire a Deputy Town Manager.
Under the direction of the Town Manager, the Deputy Town Manager provides leadership, strategic direction, and supervision to assigned personnel. This position serves as a liaison and partner on Town-wide issues, manages and oversees complex projects and policy matters, conducts research and analysis, and assists in the day-to-day operation to fulfill the goals and objectives of the Town Council.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Assists Town Manager to engage and support the public and its elected officials by developing plans and priorities, strategically managing, and achieving outcomes, and leading change
- Provides information and technical assistance to the Town Manager; assists the Town Manager in administrative duties conducts independent research, and makes recommendations on complex administrative projects and problems
- Monitors town-wide strategic goals, work plans, and prepares reports for the Town Manager and Town Council
- Leads the Town’s multi-departmental efforts to implement the adopted Climate Action Plan
- Serves as a lead voice in the Town’s multi-departmental efforts to integrate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practices into all aspects of service to external customers; collaborates with HR Department on internal DEI practices implemented by multiple departments
- Works in a collaborative manner to foster teamwork while managing and facilitating processes and complex projects requiring coordination with the Town Manager’s Office, across departments, and the town organization
- Oversees Town communication strategy and public engagement efforts, directs activities of the Public Information Administrator, IT Coordinator, IT consultant programs, and associated budget and goals
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business, Management, Political Science or related field; Advanced Degree preferred. At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in government, including two years of supervisor experience A combination of education and experience may be considered. Valid Drivers License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required*
Knowledge of: Particular knowledge of local Telluride issues, relationships with community leaders, and the political acumen to negotiate critical agreements unique to the Town of Telluride. Advanced knowledge of principles and practices of public administration and municipal government structure and operations. Public outreach experience including maintaining public engagement through a variety of diverse approaches and tools. Knowledge of information technology, including website content and social media management. Experience in project development and administration, strategic planning, process improvement, and public engagement initiatives. Supervisory principles to effectively motivate, develop and hold staff accountable.
Skill in: Analyzing a variety of operational problems, making recommendations, and negotiating for solutions. Ability to make effective public presentations, listen and communicate effectively verbally and in writing with diverse groups. Apply tact, and discretion and maintain confidentiality. Use independent judgment and discretion to perform tasks on behalf of the Town. Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, organize, prioritize, coordinate, and delegate work to achieve objectives.
Environmental Factors
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment and in and around the Town’s buildings and facilities. Work may be subject to many interruptions, and pressure and requires quick prioritization of job responsibilities and project work.

Full-Time Year-Round; Grade 110; minimum $129,636 - maximum $187, 973 DOQ
