Production Control Assistant Manager

I.  General Summary:  Responsible for production planning and materials management function related to the planning, procurement, storage, controlling and distribution of quality materials and products.

II.  Essential Job Functions:  

     A.  Manages proper production control planning and scheduling programs to meet forecasts.

     B.  Maintains optimal inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries to meet customer requirements,  while minimizing carrying costs and premium transportation charges.

     C.  Supports launch, model change, and ECI activity.

     D.  Manages manpower and activities of kanban ordering process.

     E.  Implement short and long term corrective actions for production planning and materials management problems.

     F.  Supports development of new supply sources where vendors are inadequate.

     G.  Negotiates blanket purchase orders and monitors cost.

     H.  Ensures investment budget rules are followed and keeps track of adherence to policy.

     I.  Establishes and recommends approval of expenses budgets for material control and implements the   necessary controls to keep expenditures with budget limits.

     J.  Determines supplier component part packaging and tracks packaging and tracks packaging inventory with supplier base.

     K.  Manages the shipping and receiving functions and the storage of purchased parts and finished goods.

    L.  Use key performance indicators as a method of continuous improvement (kaizen).

     M.  Prepares documents to report progress, order status, department budget forecasts and  miscellaneous recommendations relating to inventory, production control and customer service.

     N.  Ensure that company standard practices and procedures are followed.

     O.  Maintain inventory management system.

II.  Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:     

     Education:  Bachelor's Degree in Business, Logistics or related field required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

     Experience:

  • Minimum of six (6) years of relevant manufacturing experience required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience in a professional environment required.

     Personal/Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job functions of a management role.
  • Working knowledge of kanban system, truck/delivery schedules, hazardous waste disposal, and inventory level management.
  • Thorough understanding of company product, trade terminology, quality management and control systems and techniques, manufacturing processes including material controls, workflow, scheduling, kanban, machine operation, and company policies as standards.
  • Basic math and analytical skills.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate problem solving and resolution.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural work environment.
  • Ability to work with multiple departments and prioritize activities.
  • Ability to read instruction manuals, blue pints and specifications.
  • Ability to plan, supervise, and perform functions of assigned areas.
  • Ability to maintain on call flexibility to control abnormal conditions.
  • Ability to be flexible in a constantly changing production environment.
  • Active listener with effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task, handle diversity, and provide leadership through problem resolution.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with all levels of the organization in a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt available skills and equipment to respond to unforeseen demands and/or problems.
  • Ability to implement plans to control and maintain safety, quality, 5S, cost and efficiency for assigned areas.
  • Strong organization, time management, planning skills and ability to manage multiple tasks with tight deadlines.

     Language Skills:  Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

     Computer Software:

  • Previous experience working with integrated computer programs and/or applications.  ERP system experience (e.g. Oracle) preferred.
  • Solid working knowledge and demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Litus Notes/Outlook, Internet, etc.).

IV.  Work Environment/Conditions:

     Office:  Open Office Environment

     Plant:  Standard automotive plant environment with moderate noise level.  PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as safety glasses, steel toe shoes, etc. may be required in engineering, manufacturing or industrial areas.  Personal attire standards may apply.

     Travel:  Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time.

V.     Physical Demands:

        Ability to sit and work on a computer for extensive periods of time as required.  While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to talk, see and hear.  The team member must be capable of walking, sitting, and standing for periods of time.  May be required to lift up to 30 pounds.
