Overview:
At TMI, we are Serious About Safety and its role in everything we strive to achieve. As a Traffic Safety Specialist (TSS), you'll be responsible for the successful execution of TMI's Corporate Safety initiatives. The goal of the TSS is to help eliminate accidents and injuries by supporting our Traffic Controllers to maintain a constant safety awareness to achieve this goal. The TSS will work side-by-side with Branch and Regional Leadership in ensuring we keep our customers, our employees and the public safe. The TSS will also be a catalyst in Traffic Controller training, Traffic Controller evaluations, and quality control.
Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Conducts Traffic Control Safety inspections ensuring proper equipment is used and setups are correct according to the MUTCD and WATCH guidelines for ensuring jobsite safety.
Ensures field crews are adhering to all safety guidelines (PPE, safety equipment, attentiveness)
Ensures proper paperwork and documentation for jobsite(s) are initiated by Traffic Controllers when inspecting jobs and for training purposes.
Conducts job site inspections in a professional and courteous manner
Fills out all applicable safety reports including job site inspections reports, corrective actions, and incident reports amongst others.
Promptly responds to all accidents / injuries and conducts investigations in adherence to all proper procedures and protocols.
Consults with Dispatchers / Operations Assistants to coordinate field safety audits and Traffic Controller safety evaluations.
Reviews, selects, and prioritizes job visits and inspects based on branch needs.
Familiarizes with branch Traffic Controller's skills & qualifications to provide recommendations for safety performance reviews and training.
Ensures all documentation is submitted and followed through with the Corporate Safety Program initiatives in a timely and accurate manner.
Ensures field equipment is in proper working order and reports any unsafe equipment
Meets with local customer safety contacts, insurance loss control or city safety inspectors and represents TMI in meetings.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
TMI Safety Program and Injury, Illness & Prevention Program (IIPP)
MUTCD and various local Traffic Control Regulations including ADA and Pedestrian Traffic Safety
Federal and State OSHA regulatory compliance standards
TMI Traffic Controller classification knowledge
Familiarity of various traffic control setups from simple to complex
Permit regulations
TMI field employee handbook
Know and understand TMI Policies and Procedures
BASIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Traffic Control operations
Ability to work well with others in team atmosphere
Computer aptitude
Proficient in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.)
Customer service and interaction with an ability to present in classroom and field settings
Able to perform basic Traffic Control duties when required.
Must be available for emergencies and after-hours incident response.
EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE:
Vehicles (Trucks/Cars) of various sizes
Flatbed trucks
Trailer mounted warning signs
Cones, delineators, drums, barricades, signs, and various other traffic control devices

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Requires standing for prolonged periods of time
Requires lifting up 50lb
Requires using hands to handle, control or lift objects
Requires being outside and exposed to environmental conditions
Requires being in construction environment
Requires repetitive movement
Exposure to work near moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment and moving vehicular traffic
Exposure to reasonable noise levels
Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma (or equivalent)
Must have valid driver's license and meet the Company’s insurance coverage requirements
Preferred candidate must have:
2 years or more traffic control experience
