Director of Machine Learning

Lead the company’s machine learning engineering efforts in the domain of technology, agribusiness, and finance, and manage team resources across multiple geographies, primarily Brazil and the United States. Specific duties include:

- Lead machine learning and data engineer resources across North and South America to develop and implement code, data processes, and ML-based models using best practices in the agribusiness and financial sectors.

- Ensure that the company’s AI strategy and vision align with the company’s goals, and make software and platform decisions for the company’s AI strategy.

- Apply knowledge of agribusiness and financial domains to inform the development and implementation of machine learning models and data processes. Use insights from these domains to identify unique opportunities and address complex challenges.

- Collaborate with other departments to identify business opportunities and challenges, and drive the machine learning efforts at Traive to better outcomes and deliveries.

- Manage the budget for the machine learning and data engineer teams, including forecasting, tracking, and reporting expenses, and ensuring cost-effective use of resources.

- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to a highly diverse, multilingual team of junior machine learning engineers, data engineers, and data scientists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in machine learning and data science and implement relevant technologies and methodologies to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the company’s machine learning models.

- Lead and mentor team members to ensure their professional development and engagement.

Job Requirements:

Requires Master’s Degree or equivalent in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Data Science or a related field.

Must have 48 months of experience with the following:

● Experience explaining and presenting complex machine learning concepts to both technical and non-technical multilingual audiences.

● Experience in delivering successful machine learning systems in production.

● Experience in managing and leading teams of data scientists, engineers, or related professionals with the ability to work across multiple geographies and cultures.

● Experience in credit and agribusiness, with an understanding of industry trends, challenges, and opportunities.

● Experience using Python and SQL code development, applying best practices throughout the entire workflow, from initial development to production deployment.

● Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform.

Must also have 12 months of experience with the following:

● Experience with financial markets, risk management, and investment strategies.

● Experience calculating credit scores and the statistical methods used.

Hybrid remote work permitted; must live within commuting distance of worksite. Travel required to unanticipated worksites in United States, Brazil, and throughout Latin America. Travel encompasses 50% of time.
