On-Call Field Biologist

Our Corporate Office is based in Mesa, Arizona, and we have multiple offices in California, Utah, Virginia, Arizona and Wyoming. Our highly successful team of resource professionals provides environmental planning, permitting, and compliance services for a variety of clients.


ABOUT THE POSITION

Transcon is seeking a qualified, part-time field biologist looking for a variety of exciting field work. Responsibilities may include conducting special status plant and wildlife surveys, nesting bird surveys, jurisdictional water surveys, habitat assessments, and construction monitoring. Fieldwork will include both one-day and multiple-day assignments. Ideal candidates for this work will possess a degree in biology, environmental studies, or natural resource management and have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment; candidates should have the ability to work independently or as part of a team; have strong attention to detail; strong communication skills and be highly organized. Candidates applying for this position will ideally be based out of our Draper or Cedar City offices in Utah. However, there are many opportunities in other regional offices as well.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Part-time employees are eligible for sick time and full-time employees are eligible for additional benefits including paid time off; medical, dental, and vision insurance, and 401K with employer match. As a 100 percent Employee-Owned Company all employees will also be enrolled in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan, becoming shareholders in the company. Employees will be reimbursed for mileage and compensated for travel time. Compensation is based on qualifications and relevant experience but will likely range between $25 to $35 per hour


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree in biology, natural resource management, environmental studies or similar field
  • At least 2 years of experience as a biologist, botanist, or similar role
  • Ability to work long hours in potentially extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to travel for extended periods of time
  • Competence using global positioning system units, maps, ipads, and submeter accuracy devices
  • The ability to operate a four-wheel drive vehicle over rough terrain
  • The ability to perform work duties independently or as part of a team
  • Capable of hiking long distances
  • Clear communicator, highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, and dependable

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Biological resources (Mojave Desert Tortoise, Utah Prairie Dog, Pygmy Rabbit, Southwestern Willow Flycatcher, bat surveys, or botanical surveys)
    • Restoration and reclamation
    • Implementing and/or monitoring erosion and sediment controls including preparation and maintenance of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans
    • Wetland delineations
    • Construction monitoring
  • Familiarity with typical utility operations and maintenance activities
  • Familiarity with ESRI GIS applications (including desktop, ArcGIS, Field Maps, Survey123, etc.)
  • Prior experience working in Utah, Arizona, and California or Nevada

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have a clean driving record for at least five years prior to the start of work. Offers of employment will be contingent upon passing a background check.
