Road Supervisor Job Description

OVERVIEW : The Road Supervisor’s primary responsibility is to maintain, govern, and provide effective, efficiently running routes for the customer, and to supply accurate data for route and charter operators.

Performs responsible supervisory work assuring scheduled service is always maintained and managing the daily operation of Transdev’s fixed route system.

Performs Division and Road Supervision assignments. Incumbents may be required to rotate through all assignments and / or be reassigned at any time and therefore, are expected to obtain training and certifications for any assignment, as required.

This position reports directly to the Operations Manager in fulfilling day-to-day responsibilities.

DUTIES :

  • Ensures minimum variation in scheduled transit service and customer safety through managing on-site Road service operations and utilizing digital communication tools to maintain effective communication with various departments.
  • Ensures all department policies and procedures are followed. Also ensures Operators maintain compliance with FTA and ADA laws and regulations.
  • Responds to revenue and non-revenue accidents and / or security incidents in a timely manner; ensures clear, concise and accuracy of all reporting, less any discrepancies and / or falsities.
  • Photographs accident activity (., damage to vehicles, injuries to customers, ; records, where appropriate.
  • Complete precise and complete accident reports and execute all accident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Transport Operators / staff to medical facility for post-accident assessment and / or required drug / alcohol testing
  • Collects information from witnesses regarding accidents and security incidents, including demographic information and witness statements.
  • Executes Road observations, route checks, and ride checks and responds to service-related events; service to ensure proper implementation of all operating rules and procedures.
  • Monitors BOCC communication, bus shelters and Park and Ride locations for security issues.
  • Uses sound judgment to de-escalate and handle potentially dangerous situations in various locations throughout the service area
  • Assists operators in overcoming operational challenges.
  • Maintains courteous and informative communications with the public and customers.
  • Conduct Road observations of service to ensure proper implementation of all operating rules and procedures.
  • Resolves day-to-day operating problems which arise as a result of, including but not limited to, vehicle breakdowns, accidents, missed or late routes.

Makes appropriate decisions regarding restoring or maintaining service.

  • Makes recommendations and / or submit reports to management to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, stream-line work processes, and works cooperatively and jointly to provide customer service.
  • Responds to any service-related assignment given by the operations personnel.
  • Communicate face-to-face with the riding public as outreach and customer service, and to answer any questions on the ground.
  • Assesses safety conditions of all aspects of bus service and monitors operator and passenger behavior while in service.
  • Reports Road conditions, potholes, wires, or tree damage, etc., that may affect bus service.
  • Oversees a smooth commuting experience for Operator and the public and share best practices with entire team.
  • Complete Incident Reports on observed Operators failure to perform the job in a safe manner and in accordance with Company and client specification.
  • Escalates issues to Operations Manager and other management team members when necessary.
  • Inspects the revenue fleet and the yard to eliminate any potential disruptions during the AM / PM pullout.
  • Works in conjunction with Maintenance Department to determine which vehicles are out of service and which vehicles are pulled from the ready line because of mechanical defects.
  • Collects the DVIR’s from Operators when they return to the yard.
  • Oversees the preparation of the ready line for the initial pullout of the AM / PM.
  • Ensures that the ready line remains replenished throughout the pullout process.
  • Assigns vehicles to operators.
  • Oversees driver pre-trip inspections and guarantees that vehicles are ready for service.
  • Controls and communicates the utilization of the spare line.
  • Provides information to the Operations and Maintenance for reporting purposes.
  • Other duties as assigned to promote safe and reliable service delivery.

REQUIREMENTS :

  • High school diploma or equivalent.Degree preferred.
  • Preferably have a minimum of 2 years experience in the transportation industry with emphasis on safety.
  • 2-3 years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of state and local regulations / guidelines, inclusive of DOT, FTA, and FMCSR.
  • Ability to interpret and initiate policies and procedures.
  • Ability to secure a Class "B" CDL with a "P" endorsement.
  • Considerable knowledge of and ability to use personnel computers and related software.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify and understand problems and to determine the appropriate measures it takes to solve problems.
  • Considerable interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Ability to manage customer relationships, provide strong customer service skills and work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Proven organization skills, understanding importance of prioritizing effectively and managing multiple tasks in an environment with ever competing demands.

  • 10% of work is accomplished in doors and in air conditioned or well-ventilated facilities.

  • normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; ability to lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with assistance; ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch;

and corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication.

  • Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job.
  • Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
  • Must be able to travel for company training, meeting, or support missions.
