What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Monitor position at Transitions DMC, Inc?
Shelter Monitor:
Provide shelter, support, and solutions to address the housing needs in our community. When people have nowhere else to go, Transitions DMC is here to provide our services to members of our community experiencing homelessness. The Shelter Monitor is part of a team that provides services in an emergency shelter setting.
Primary role and responsibility is to ensure a safe environment and work collaboratively with other staff in assisting clients towards the goals of permanent housing and a stable income.
Monitor client activities ensuring program rules are abided, answering phones.
Assist in serving and cleaning up after evening meals as necessary.
Completes rounds, ensuring that chores are complete, curfew is met, clients are in bed by the designated times in the evening and out of bed by the designated times in the morning.
Assist in clients moving into and out of the shelter.
Ensures building meets organizational standards for cleanliness and safety.
Completes basic intake process for clients brought to the shelter by police during “after-hours”.
Administer basic first aid and recognize medical emergencies.
Develop and maintain appropriate relationships with clients.
Record significant interactions and behavioral data in daily logs and submit incident reports as needed.
Reports directly to Shelter Manager.
Physical Demands – Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. May be required to lift up to 25 pounds.
Confidentiality – Ability to maintain confidential information and safeguard the security of information.
Conflict Management – Reacts and responds to complaints, solves problems. Helps clients and staff come to agreement; deescalates charged situations. Reacts quickly to assess the conflict and determine appropriate steps to resolve. Remains calm and professional during high stress situations.
Decision Making – Displays sound judgment when making decisions, at times with limited information; follows organizational policies and procedures; is aware of implications of state and federal regulations; able to make complex decisions in line with agency’s mission, vision and values.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $8.00 - $10.00 per hour
