What are the responsibilities and job description for the Carrier Relations Manager position at Transplace?

Transplace Carrier Relations Manager (CRM) works strategically with a specific account customer to gain an understanding of their specific transportation procurement challenges and to jointly explore procurement opportunities end to end – from strategy to post bid carrier performance management. In addition, the CRM provides tactical decision-making services that bridge the gap between strategic planning and operational execution. Our customer has taken advantage of our multi-level approach and have realized benefits such as; reduced costs, improved service, committed core carrier capacity, improved utilization of Transplace Internal Services, lowest cost mode conversion, assignment of carriers to dedicated lanes and reduction of detention and accessorial charges. Managing carriers and building strong carrier relationships is critical to this process. This CRM position leads end-to-end transportation procurement, from strategy to post bid analytics and carrier performance.

PRIMARY JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Carrier Relationship Management
  • Carrier Performance Management
  • Internal Analytical Support
  • Internal and External Request for Proposal Support (RFP)
  • Ability to analyze customers data and promote a cost acceptable solution that provides value for the customer
  • Manage drop trailer programs at Inbound and Outbound locations

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TASKS

  • Carrier Performance Management
  • Evaluate bid compliance by analyzing actual results versus the response provided in the bid
  • Evaluate carrier on time service at the weekly, monthly and quarterly level
  • Evaluate carrier tender acceptance at the weekly, monthly and quarterly level
  • Evaluate on cost outside of annual contracted rates
  • Carrier Relationship Management
  • Participate and lead in the development of capacity solutions for Transplace Customer
  • Administration and coordination of onsite and virtual meetings for external carriers
  • Carrier setup and EDI / Carrier Portal support
  • Internal Analytical Support
  • Provide expert advice in Microsoft Excel and other applications to all end users
  • Provide expert advice in Tableau to customers, carriers and all other end users
  • Engage with Operational team to identify needed capacity, carrier performance, and rectify issues experienced by the Operations team
  • Participate in Internal Benchmarking Activities
  • Statistical Analysis
  • Analysis of bid data, and FAM data to determine if sourcing is required
  • Research & Development
  • Data Mining including carrier classifications, specialty score carding, historical information and other Transplace data
  • Design and compile external surveys to collect information to provide value add service to customer requirements
  • Design and compile surveys to measure company performance against carrier expectations
  • Participation in the Transplace Response to RFI and RFP by providing detailed information on sustainability initiatives, carrier contracts, load volume, etc.

  • Knowledge of Market trends and Economic forecast to educate customer and to be on leading edge to affect forecast of capacity needs.
  • Expertise in transportation procurement and use of technology to execute bid events.
  • High Level Knowledge of online bidding tools
  • High Level Knowledge of Tableau
  • Knowledge of the Carriers' Business (In depth knowledge of carriers’ network and operational needs).
  • Knowledge of Carrier Operations (Which includes Financial, Equipment, Mode, Driver issues, geographical radius.)
  • Strong understanding of major modes: Truckload, LTL, IM, Rail, Dedicated and Private Fleets.
  • Negotiation Skills, Tactics, Conflict Resolution
  • Federal Regulations (Including DOT, FMCSA, CSA, HOS, etc.)
  • Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Tools (Ability to leverage Excel and other MS programs, including Word, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.)

  • Communication Skills (Ability to consistently demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with customers, colleagues, and supervisors in professional and constructive manner)
  • Multi-Tasking (Handles multiple tasks simultaneously. Prioritizes and organizes assignments to make efficient use of time with significant attention to detail)

  • Advanced Presentation (Includes ability to verbally communicate to internal and external customers)
  • Time Management (Includes ability to manage projects independently, meet timelines, limited direct supervision)

TRAVEL

  • Some travel will be required

EXPERIENCE

  • 2 to 4 years or more analyzing and managing Truckload transportation, either at a shipper, carrier or 3PL. Knowledge of truckload industry, major carriers, cost drivers, and best practices.
  • Flatbed experience preferred

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred - Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field
