JOB SUMMARY
The Equipment Manager provides leadership and direction for the safe, reliable and cost-effective performance of container terminal equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following describes the general nature and level of work, but not intended to be a comprehensive list of all activities, duties, and responsibilities required of the job incumbent. Consequently, job incumbents may be asked to perform other duties as required.
- It is essential that the incumbent be knowledgeable of equipment technology, terminology, various equipment types and repair techniques, all of which must conform to applicable standards. This knowledge also allows the incumbent to assist with the management of parts, materials and supplies inventory, purchasing, cost accounting, and preparation of reports and applicable documentation.
- Incumbent provides direction to the maintenance contractor and/or contracted maintenance technicians, works closely with other business managers for the preparation of equipment maintenance and energy budgets, and sets priorities for maintenance of equipment and approves equipment maintenance expenditure within budget and authority limit.
- The incumbent builds up a preventive and predictive maintenance schedule with detailed work instructions for all equipment to reduce damages and downtime on all machinery and maintains inventory to ensure that inventory levels are minimised while still ensuring that necessary and anticipated spare parts are always immediately available.
- The incumbent proactively undertakes maintenance planning for corrective work, maintains up-to-date information and knowledge on equipment, improves and modifies equipment design, in order to improve safety, reliability, efficiency, or life cycle cost.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- A university degree in electrical/electronic, mechanical, or mechatronic engineering or related field. With some post qualification experience or significant practical experience advancing career from a relevant craft through to supervisor or management position (10 years technical experience, 2 years management experience).
- Additional studies in asset management, business, or related is preferred.
- Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals applicable to container handling equipment.
- Practical knowledge of general safety, health, and environmental issues.
- Experience working with a union workforce an ability to work in the bargaining agreement.
- Advanced Proficiency and Computer skills for MS Office suite.
- Ability to work outdoors, at height, in confined/restricted spaces and out of normal hours.
- Ability to occasionally travel domestically and/or internationally.
- Experience within a demanding 24/7 work environment.
- Cost consciousness when making decisions.
- Experience and training specifically related to container handling equipment.
