GENERAL SUMMARY
As a Service Technician, your primary role is to provide retail and warranty service for the RV’s we sell to our customers when they return for service as well as other customers that have not purchased their RV’s from us. Additionally, prepping and servicing the used inventory we purchase or trade in and performing Pre-Delivery-Inspections and warranty work on the new factory inventory we purchase will be part of this position. You should have a fairly good understanding of how to diagnose a vehicle to determine the problems for presenting a write up of issues to be approved for work. You should have knowledge in a variety of areas pertaining to gas, electrical, hydraulic, plumbing, towing systems, generators, appliances, carpentry, and interior components.
JOB TASKS
- Confer with customers as needed, read work orders, and examine vehicles needing repair in order to determine the nature and extent of damage or service work needed
- Diagnose problems to determine component failures and order as needed replacement components through parts department
- Follow and complete Pre-Delivery-Inspection checklists
- List parts needed, estimate costs, and plan work procedures, using parts lists, technical manuals, and diagrams
- Write up on work orders “cause” and “correction” to follow “problem” presented on work order when assigned to you
- Flag hours for your work performed daily
TECHNICAL TASKS
- Connect electrical systems to outside power sources, and activate switches to test the operation of appliances, slides, and light fixtures
- Connect water hoses to inlet pipes of plumbing systems, and test operation of showers, toilets, and sinks
- Examine or test operation of parts or systems that have been repaired to ensure completeness of repairs
- Inspect recreational vehicles to diagnose problems, then perform necessary adjustment, repair, or overhaul
- Locate and repair frayed wiring, broken connections, or incorrect wiring, using ohmmeters, soldering irons, tape, and hand tools
- Remove damaged exterior panels, and repair and replace structural frame members
- Repair leaks with caulking compound, or replace pipes, using pipe wrenches
- Open and close doors, windows, and drawers to test their operation, trimming edges to fit as necessary
- Refinish wood surfaces on cabinets, doors, moldings, and floors, using power sanders, putty, spray equipment, brushes, paints, or varnishes
- Perform roof inspections and repairs
