Food Safety Quality Assurance Manager

This position of Food Safety Quality Assurance Manager exists to assure the facility’s food safety and quality systems (programs, SQF, SOP’s, HACCP Plans, manuals, etc) fulfill customer expectations, government regulations, and company requirements. The qualified person will drive the development, implementation, awareness, continual assessment, and improvement of those systems.

The job of Food Safety Quality Assurance Supervisor in under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager.

A minimum of a B.S. from an accredited University/College and three to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required for this position. Also must have completed HACCP training. Knowledge of SQF Standards is helpful. Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus.

Responsibilities and essential duties for the Food Safety Quality Assurance Supervisor consist of but are not limited to the following:

1. Regulatory programs (HACCP, SOPs, etc) are properly designed, implemented, understood, routinely assessed, improved upon, and well maintained.

2. GMP’s and food safety procedures are understood, instilled at all levels of employment, and monitored throughout all areas on the facility.

3. Assist in creating and implementing programs for the facility to become SQF Certified.

4. Oversee the Quality Department that consists of one microbiologist, two day shift Quality Control Techs, and one second shift Quality Control Tech. Ensure that all tests are being carried out in accordance with written SOPs, company, and regulatory standards. Assist and fill-in as needed during vacations, days off, etc.

5. Microbial programs are to be implemented, routinely assessed, improved upon and well maintained. These programs include but are not limited to – environmental swabbing of equipment, enumeration of APC, generic E. Coli, and Coliform on finished product and incoming goods; and pathogen testing of products as directed by the company.

6. Develop and lead cross-functional teams to drive selected quality or food safety programs, Examples include but are not limited to monthly food safety facility inspections, HACCP Team meetings, etc.

7. Interact with USDA/FSIS officials.

8. Acquire supporting documents for quality/food safety systems.

9. Maintain a retained product list and persist in effecting decisions that will appropriately result in the removal of product from retained status. Support decisions of product disposition where food safety or quality attributes are in question.

10. Assist with the development and implementation of training materials addressing food safety and quality system subject matters. Conduct training sessions and prepare others to conduct training sessions specific to food safety and quality system subject matters.

11. Instill accountability for job performance, attendance, and personal conduct by ensuring company policies are consistently applied to employees.

12. Compile meaningful reports and thorough reviews of systems, SOPs, and inspections in a timely manner.

13. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.

14. Must have good reasoning and decision-making skills.

15. Must be proficient in using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

16. Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to prioritize, plan, and complete projects in a timely manner.

The FSQA Supervisor will supervise systems in addition to employees. Supervising systems requires the supervisor to ensure documents are properly maintained and completed on time.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
