Underwriting Assistant

 ***Note: This is a Hybrid Role. The employee is expected to be in the office at a minimum, 2-3 days a week. The first 90 days after the hiring date it would be highly desirable and may be required to  come into the office at a greater frequency for training and regular tasks that will be required on a  go-forward basis.  

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Underwriting Assistant reports to the assigned Underwriter(s)/Underwriting Supervisor, provides support to the underwriting staff and performs other clerical duties in the department. This position assists in the pre-underwriting process to allow the Underwriter to make an informed decision in a timely manner.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Review and enter worker’s compensation applications
• Obtains missing or needed information
• Sets up submissions in policy administration system and may complete basic information on the Risk Analysis Worksheet.
• Maintains strong attention to detail and assigning submissions to the proper underwriter.
• Email policies to agents and welcome kits to policyholders.
• Process loss run and experience mod worksheet requests.
• Processes renewals.
• Handles inquiries and requests from both agents and policyholders.
• Issues policy endorsements as needed; includes cancellation and reinstatement notices
• Binds and issues policies in policy administration system.
• Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
• Must maintain a consistent presence in the office.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 3-5 years administrative experience
• Underwriting and insurance experience strongly desired
• Microsoft applications
• Demonstrates accuracy, attention to detail and thoroughness.
• Works effectively in a fast-paced environment while providing a high level of customer service.
• Consistently at work and on time.
• Follows instructions and responds to management direction. Ability to meet designated deadlines and reach goals
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as accept direction on given assignments.
• Ability to multi-task; strong organizational skills.
• Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•   Ability to solve practical problems and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written,  oral, or diagram form 
• Treats records and documents of a sensitive and confidential nature with care.
• Strong administrative skills required, along with the ability to exercise discretion and judgment.
