When called to assist with a removal you will be involved with handling the removal and transport of human remains with company vehicle and equipment. Must have the ability to adapt to fast paced environment and stressful situations while providing compassion and care for deceased individuals. Have the ablility to respond to first call removals within the specified time of 45-90 minutes depending on location.
When functioning as a funeral assistant you will perform a variety of tasks related to all aspects of funeral and memorial related services and other unspecified services before, during, and after these services under the supervision of the funeral director in charge.
Specific Responsibilities
Removal Assistant duties include but not limited to
Keep and maintain a log of all deceased in your care as well as those transferred from our care.
Perform removals of deceased from location of decedent to mortuary or funeral home; in certain occasions may transfer decedents from other funeral homes to our location.
Maintain and ensure removal vehicle is clean inside and out and is properly maintained.
Maintains adequate supply of Personal Protective Equipment in removal vehicles and light maintenance of preparation room.
On call every other weekend - must be available to work during on call hours
Other related duties as instructed by supervisor
When functioning as a Funeral AssistantPlace casket in private family room or chapel prior to service
Greet, assist, and direct persons entering the establishment to appropriate destination
Provide information about the establishment, services, and employees to visitors as requested
Assist with cleaning and maintenance of the funeral home, automobiles, and/or other funeral equipment
Arrange floral offerings or lights around casket
Direct, instruct, or escort the public as needed
Assist with closing, lifting, and placement of casket
Carry flowers to flower vehicles, funeral coach and/or cars
Drive flower vehicle, funeral coach, or limousine
Clean and store funeral equipment after services
Assist with answering and screening calls, providing information, and taking messages as needed
Perform a variety of supportive tasks under the supervision of the funeral director in charge
Promote a safe work environment by adopting general principles of safe conduct
Adhere to all professional, municipal, state/provincial, and federal licensing and/or authority regulations
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license
Physical DemandsAbility to tolerate exposure to hazardous substances subject to government requirements.
Occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling, with assistance, of objects up to approximately 400 pounds.
Must be able to stoop, bend, push, pull, 150 pounds or more and lift arms over head
Ability to operate and travel by standard methods of transportation
Must be free from judgment-impairing conditions, disease or addictions, or those which impair your ability to interact with employees, management, or public.
Required Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or Equivalent
Ability to communicate effectively with management and employees as well as client families in emotional and stressful situations
Knowledge of or ability to learn current federal, state, and local regulations related to the funeral industry
Have and maintain a valid state driver's license
