PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Logistics Specialist is responsible for ensuring the uninterrupted flow of international freight between NW Naturals and international and domestic partners. Position contributes to the development and implementation of international and domestic operating procedures; supports compliance; reviews, edits and creates procedures for international shipments; audits and analyzes freight costs, classifications, pick-up and delivery methods; and maintains export/import policies to minimize liability and ensure ongoing protection of company’s import and export privileges.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports to the Director of Purchasing & Logistics and does not supervise staff. The position works closely with all departments and employees within NW Naturals, warehouses, suppliers, customs, freight forwarders/Brokers, truck drivers and trucking companies
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Coordinate international shipments, documentation and customs clearance. Provide direction and support to shipping staff in proper handling and routing of international shipments. Select transportation partners and negotiate rates/contracts with each carrier for the betterment of NWN. Stay up to date with changing export regulations to ensure appropriate documentation meets country requirements. Resolve any product shipment variances. File all export documentation for audit purposes to include USMCA.
- Ensure shipments meet all established regulations and are in the best interest of NW Naturals. Analyze export activity to determine whether preferential trade programs apply to maximize cost reductions, improve competitive advantage and support compliance. Audit export invoices for accurate weights, rates, and currency conversation and identify dangerous goods cargo and handle shipments in strict accordance to DOT and IATA DG regulations. Work closely with regulatory and quality to ensure adherence to FDA regulations.
- Define and coordinate the classification process of products for export, both ECCN (Export Control Classification Numbers) and HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) codes, AES/10 2 filing and Country of Origin.
- Oversee inventory levels. Ensure inventory accuracy at all outside storage facilities and assist with physical inventory as needed. Purchase raw materials, contact suppliers, and issue purchase orders as needed. Maintain records of outside storage locations for raw materials and qualify/audit warehouse as appropriate.
- Monitor the status of orders on the production board and coordinate pick up schedules with truckers to coincide with the daily changes of the production schedule.
- Develop and maintain professional working relationship with others. Interface with shipping, lab technicians, batch writers, manufacturing and finance to define product classification, USMCA eligibility, classification, valuation, country of origin, and marking requirements. Communicate and develop partnerships with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and related service providers.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Principles and practices of inventory planning.
- Principles and practices of industrial purchasing, purchase orders, and requisitions.
- Office administrative and management practices and procedures, including record keeping.
- Mathematics and general accounting.
- Laws and regulations as it pertains to domestic and international shipments, including: USMCA, Harmonized HS Code Tariff Classification, Export Administration Regulations, Export Screening, and US Export Control and US Embargoes by country.
- Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations.
ABILITY TO:

EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION/LICENSES, AND TRAINING:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of import/export and transportation experience including export licensing, internal export/import controls and product classification.
- Experience in handling and shipping of Hazardous materials.
- HazMat and IATA/DOT certification desired
