PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Plant Purchasing specialist orders parts and consumable maintenance/operational supplies, organizes inventory of parts and supplies for efficient access; ensures proper inventory levels are kept through routine cycle counting of inventory; maintains security of parts cage; and competitively shops for best pricing and quality of parts.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports to the Maintenance Manager. The position works closely with plant staff, and external suppliers and vendors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Purchase, physically and electronically receive parts and supplies for smooth plant operations
Ensure supplies are on-hand to meet maintenance and plant needs
Organize and tag parts cage in a systematic manner that makes items easy to find
Timely research parts, vendor, location and pricing
Input data into the maintenance Computer Maintenance Management System
Ensures proper inventory levels are kept through routine cycle counting of inventory
Interact and maintain professional working relationships with current and prospective vendors
Interact with plant management, and maintenance personnel to complete and clarify ordering processes, capital projects, special projects related to inventory control, and storage space management.
Dependable and predictable attendance
Maintains storage areas to food safety and safety standards
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY: KNOWLEDGE OF:
Principles and practices of industrial purchasing
Principles and practices of inventory planning
ABILITY TO:
Gain cooperation through discussion and persuasion
Identify, research, and analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, and project consequences of proposed actions
Effectively organize, plan, and execute
Use computers and computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, including ten-key proficiency
Demonstrate ability to be highly organized and disciplined to follow up with vendors
EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION/LICENSES, AND TRAINING:
A High School diploma or GED is required
Minimum of 2 years of purchasing experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
Experience developing and maintaining relationships with external vendors is required
PREFERRANCE WILL BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WITH:
4 years of manufacturing purchasing experience
Experience working in an ERP system
Candidates with a career path in purchasing
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in manufacturing/plant environments an office, lab, and outdoors
Occasionally works mandatory overtime
Occasionally works with dissatisfied or angry customers
Physical requirements of the job: Vision requirements: Frequently uses near, far, and occasionally uses depth perception
Frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Frequently talks, uses repetitive hand motions, listens/uses hearing, and/or sits
Types of exposures encountered on the job: Occasionally has exposures to toxic or caustic chemicals, odors or fumes, and/or loud machine/equipment noise
