In addition to the Qualifications and Requirements outlined in the Trenton EMS job description, the selected candidate must:


  • Have a minimum; a high school diploma or equivalent;
  • Preferred one year or more EMS experience within an organized EMS agency providing basic life support ambulance services;
  • Current PA or NJ drivers license in good standing;
  • Current CPR certification;
  • Current EMT certification and eligibility to practice in NJ in accordance with State regulations.
  • Within one year of employment, obtain and maintain certifications in PEPP or equivalent, and PHTLS or equivalent.
  • Applicants must provide 3 references that can attest to skills, experience, and interpersonal skills, as follows:
    • Candidates must possess good verbal and written communication skills,
    • present a positive public image,
    • have a computer aptitude,
    • relate well to children and senior citizens,
    • work well with others,
    • able to develop public confidence and respect,
    • work independently,
    • and be self-motivated.

  • Candidates must also submit to a background check and substance use/abuse screening.
  • Selected candidates must meet minimum standards for availability as described in the TEMS Employee Handbook
