JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Maintenance Personnel
Term of Employment: Twelve Month Position
Immediate Supervisor: Director of Schools
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The maintenance personnel shall oversee the attainment of a high standard of maintenance of school system buildings and campuses.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintains repairs and upkeeps for property located throughout the schools and school campuses.
- Assists in development and maintains a checklist of scheduled maintenance on all district owned buildings and property.
- Maintains an inventory of needed materials and parts to provide prompt service to all maintenance at school site.
- Maintains a log of all annual maintenance repairs
- Maintains a completion report at the end of each repair assignment.
- Requests technical assistance as needed through contract work.
- Maintains logs of all contract work requests and completions.
- Attends in-service training programs and meetings as designated by the director.
- Stays abreast of safety and fire codes and laws governing the construction and repair of buildings.
- Performs maintenance tasks at a high level of competency.
- Completes requisition forms as necessary of material and equipment needed to complete assigned jobs.
- Replaces air condition filters and light bulbs as needed and assigned.
- Creates and maintains a safe work environment.
- Attends work regularly and arrives punctually.
- Notifies supervisor promptly in case of absence and communicates in advance the date of return so proper provisions can be made.
- Works cooperatively with others.
- Observes professional lines of communication at all times with individuals inside and outside the school system.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned which are related to the scope of the job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Duties may be both inside and outside. The employee can be exposed to temperature variations of hot and cold. Surfaces can be wet, slippery, and of a variety of inclines. Normal work days are eight (8) hours for 260 days per year. In case of emergency minimal evening, weekend, or holiday work may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must possess the physical skills and stamina to perform job responsibility, including but not limited to, digging, lifting, and carrying.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Must be able to move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Must possess skills in the use of tools, materials, and equipment, and be able to climb ladders and scaffolds and work from either at various heights.
MENTAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to:
- plan and implement appropriate work actions
- understand and interpret written and verbal instructions
- follow written and verbal instructions
- read basic building drawings
- work independently and without supervision
- complete necessary paperwork for documentation of assignments
- comply with state and federal regulations.
HUMAN RELATIONS INVOLVEMENT
Must be able to:
- work cooperatively with others
- respond positively to supervision and accept suggestions for improvement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
- Experience in the area of carpentry, construction, and welding.
- Experience in general building maintenance.
- Experience in general plumbing.
- Experience in electrical and HVAC.
- Must be in good health and must pass physical examination.
- Must pass criminal background check.
- Must have a valid Tennessee driver's license, reliable transportation, and be insurable.
