Position Summary:

The Electrical Apprentice/Helper is responsible for supporting Electricians in the maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical systems. They will assist with and perform installation and maintenance tasks to ensure the effective operation of various electrical equipment.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

 Perform basic electrical and low voltage system duties, assisting more experienced employees

  • Perform trenching and excavating duties, as well as install underground conduit as needed
  • Saw, drill, cut, and grind as needed
  • Perform all cleanup tasks as assigned
  • Receive and deliver materials to employees
  • Follow established safety standards at all times
  • Reading and interpreting architect blueprints, circuit diagrams, and other technical documents
  • Move and install heavy equipment when needed
  • Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit using measuring instruments and hand tools
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components
  • Install electrical components, equipment, or systems
  • Thread wire or cable through ducts or conduits
  • Measuring voltage, amperage, and resistance using analog and digital meters
  • Erect electrical system components and barricades, and rig scaffolds, hoists, and shoring
  • Install and connect various types of light fixtures, switches, receptacles, smoke detectors, and horn strobes within a commercial environment
  • Install various types of raceway and cable tray systems

Experience and Education: 

Required:

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in the electrical field. 
  • Must be able to operate all hand tools, large pipe bending tools, hydraulic or mechanical benders, as well as other equipment typically used for electrical work.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to thread wire or cable through ducts or conduits.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical operations and calculations (e.g., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, order of operations) to calculate labor, materials, and/or cost estimates for projects and work orders, etc.

 

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of National Electrical Codes
  • Bilingual
  • Attending FEAT, ABC, or related apprenticeship program

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day.
  • Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ability to wear company-approved Personal Protective Equipment per local, state, federal, or OSHA regulations.
  • The employee must frequently lift and move items a minimum of 25 pounds, occasionally lifting and/or moving objects that weigh more than 100 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to perform physical duties listed above for extended periods.
  • This job's specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers/printers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  • This job operates in an indoor professional office or job site environment. May work outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Employees may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee may occasionally be exposed to various extreme conditions while at various locations.
  • Employees will be exposed to moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phones, printers, and light traffic).

 

Position Type, Expected Hours of Work, and Travel:

This is a full-time position.  Days and hours of work vary but equate to 40 hours per week.  May be requested to work overtime, nights, and weekends.

 

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
