Estimator - General Contractor

QUALIFICATIONS:

Work Experience:

• Cost Estimator – General Contractor

• 5 years’ experience in construction estimating

Education:

• Minimum of associates degree or equivalent or on-the-job training

Knowledge Of:

• Mathematics, including arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry and geometry
• English language, including rules of composition, grammar, and the meaning and spelling of words
• Customer needs assessment , meeting quality standards and evaluating customer satisfaction
• Construction processes, methods and materials
• Organized approach to estimating

Skill to:

• Use mathematics to solve problems
• Manage own time and the time of others
• Use cell phones or other hand held computing devices
• Work affectively and cooperatively with clients and other trades

Ability To:

• Read architectural plans and relate details and specifications to required resources and cost
• Solve complex problems and think critically
• Read and understand contracts
• Prepare documents relating to estimating and project management
• Communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
• Learn general and specialized software applications and use bid softwareOrganize, coordinate and schedule activities
• Multi-task and meet strict deadlines
• Use MS Word, Excel, Planswift, Agtek, Bluebeam, Procore

Typical Duties:

Position reports to: President

Estimators are responsible for the day to day estimation of costs and profitability of construction management, and general contracting projects of the company, as well as perform the project manager’s administrative tasks, plus interact and coordinate jobs with the field superintendent. Activities and work tasks associated with the position include but are not limited to:

• Obtaining information from vendors and subcontractors required for preparing cost estimates
• Review and evaluation of cost estimates received from vendors and subcontractors
• Communicate with trade partners and team members regarding new and current projects
• Prepare purchase orders, schedules and other project management documents
• Ensure timely completion of estimates
• Understanding scope of work and specifications in order to prepare accurate bid
• Manage bid pricing from all vendors and subcontractors
• Evaluate information in order to be compliant with regulations and standards
• Establish and maintain working relationships with vendors and subcontractors
