Work Hours: Full time 37.5 - 40 hours per week
Wage range: $16 -$22

Youth Services Coordinators create services to inspire and facilitate lifelong learning by supporting the developmental needs of youth ages 6-15. The Youth Services Coordinator acts as a mentor and connects youth and families to resources and opportunities that meet their needs and supports healthy growth and development. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a passion for and experience in community engagement, experience working collaboratively, and a history of serving youth and families.
Immediate Supervisor: Library Director
Positions Directly Supervised: This position is not directly responsible for any other staff member, but may oversee staff members who are assigned to assist with children’s programs.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Director and other staff to develop and execute the mission and vision of the Library as it relates to children and families;
- Work to develop, implement, evaluate, and promote programs including programs in the library, at outreach locations like local schools;
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals and agencies serving children and families;
- Welcome customers and work to develop and build relationships with youth, caregivers and families within the Library and community;
- Help to fulfill customers’ informational and recreational needs by providing quality reference and readers advisory using print and electronic resources;
- Provide high quality customer service to a diverse public and staff in accordance with TCPL’s standards
- Engage in continuing education opportunities in order to develop and maintain job skills.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Preferred: Bachelors in Library Science or Library and Information Science or Bachelors Elementary Education or related field. Accepted: Associates in related field of study.
- 2-3 years previous experience working with youth;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal;
- Possesses strong leadership skills; Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines, manage assignments and responsibilities effectively in a busy urban library with a diverse public and staff;
- Outgoing, dynamic and highly organized individual with a passion for working with youth and building relationships in the community;
- Previous experience planning, presenting, and evaluating programs for youth
- Understanding of child development and the ability to apply this knowledge to create developmentally appropriate library experiences;
- Understanding of the importance of family engagement and ability to develop and apply best practices in family engagement;
- Knowledge of current technologies, electronic resources and virtual services including social media;
- Knowledge of media mentorship practices and ability to implement those practices;
- Ability to safely and legally drive the library owned outreach vehicle;
- Criminal Background Check and Drug Test required prior to employment.
- Kentucky Department of Library and Archives certification must be obtained within the first three months of employment.
Physical Demands: Individuals may need to sit or stand for extended periods. Manual dexterity to manipulate library materials required. Work extensive hours at the computer screen. Ability to lead and take part in an active program for youth which may include repetitive motions such as kicking, stamping, jumping, dancing, etc. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the work day. Ability to do repetitive tasks with speed and accuracy. Employees may need to carry, push, pull, or lift up to 30 pounds.
