Communications Specialist

Status: Full Time

Shift: Nights, 6p to 6a

What you will need:

• High school graduate with courses in business and computers
• Ability to read, write, and speak the English language effectively.
• Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills; professional telephone voice and manner.
• Ability to handle emergency situations with good common sense, stay calm and function in stressful situations.
• Current holder of Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification; or certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment with THGH dependent on class availability.
• Preferred: One year of EMS/Fire Department/Police Department experience

What you will do:

• Handles all calls for 911 requests for Trinity Health Grand Haven (THGH) EMS.
• Receives requests and schedules requests for non-emergency transports.
• Responds to calls for medical emergencies following the Emergency Medical Dispatch protocols (national standards).
• Dispatches ambulances to medical emergencies using a computer-aided dispatch and radio systems.
• Ensures adequate ambulance coverage for the THGH area, which may require calling in additional resources from ancillary agencies or off-duty staff. After an EMS response, completes billing procedure.
• Primary point of contact for initiating emergency codes and procedures.
• Answers all incoming calls for the hospital.
• Responds to calls following the appropriate hospital procedures and policies using overhead paging system, pocket pagers and telephone.
• Assists in training new communication specialists/dispatchers and paramedics.
• Monitor Regions 6, 800MHz radio and perform Region 6 radio checks as necessary.
• Monitor Alarm Systems
