Job Summary / Purpose
The internal communications strategist is responsible for leading the development and implementation of integrated internal communications strategy ranging in scope from hospital specific to network-wide. In collaboration with the department director and communication team, the internal communications strategist researches and delivers best practices to effectively support organizational strategic initiatives and Key Results. This role functions as an individual contributor within the department and supports larger network initiatives.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
Collaborate with the department director and communication team and lead development and implementation of communication plans with measurable outcomes that support MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center’s strategic plan and key results.
Work with multiple teams to inform, inspire and engage colleagues through clear and consistent communication to build a more united and engaged workforce.
Assist with data collection and analysis to monitor and understand internal audience engagement in collaboration with Human Resources.
Develop, write and manage communication plans, tactics and output that achieve desirable outcomes for key programs and senior leaders.
Serve as a corporate internal communications liaison to senior leaders, advising on strategic messaging, tactics and communication vehicles, including in emergent and sensitive situations.
Lead communications strategy team consisting of other members of the public relations and marketing department to ensure plans are established and work is managed to meet defined objectives and timelines.
Provide ongoing editorial leadership and support, including strategic content management planning, writing and editing of internal communications vehicles.
Cultivate and sustain relationships while identifying tactics supporting the organization’s strategic plan, key results and cultural beliefs.
Develop and write speeches, presentations, key messages and other related communications for organizational-wide initiatives, meetings and senior leaders.
Create and guide consistent use of brand and style standards in internal communications.
Coordinate special events, as needed.
Ensure appropriate resources to achieve financial and business objectives.
Write, edit and produce various types of communications, including: internal messages, brochures, news releases, web page content, videos, advertisements, social media content, newsletters, etc.
Initiate communication and planning processes with service line/area vice presidents, directors, managers, medical directors and medical staff and staff level employees with the goal of developing and implementing comprehensive communications and marketing plans for assigned service lines/areas that support and advance overall strategic and financial goals of the organization.
Coordinates the production of printed materials, audiovisuals, web page content, news releases and other communication vehicles, working with team members and graphic designer to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner and on budget.
Develops job estimates working with internal and external suppliers such as the in-house print shop, external printers, photographers, etc.
Develops project timelines and deadlines for review by Director, based on customer needs and available internal resources, such as print shop press time, graphic artist availability, work load, etc.
Serves as traffic manager, coordinating deadlines and work processes to ensure compliance with agreed upon deadlines.
Handles routine media inquiries for assigned service lines, sometimes researching issues for the director or assigned account executive to communicate. As assigned will interface with media outlets to place stories.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a specialized communications field (i.e., marketing, journalism, advertising, mass communication, public relations) required
Minimum of five years’ experience in the communications field (more is a plus). Health care setting experience preferred
Excellent verbal and writing skills required, along with planning and project management experience, especially with large change management initiatives
Demonstrated experience in development and successful implementation of communication strategy
Highly professional, results driven, with strong desire to continue learning to broaden knowledge and resolve problems
A strong team player with the ability to build good relationships with key stakeholders

Salary : $35,600 - $45,000
