Medical Lab Scientist
SHIELD Illinois is a screening testing program and infrastructure that deploys the University of Illinois’ innovative saliva test across the state. Responsibilities
- Follow testing procedures and policies
- Perform routine and complex procedures outlined in the SOP’s
- Prepare dilution buffers and create RT-PCR master mix solutions
- Learn and understand robotic software and various PCR-related software
- Contribute and communicate with leadership and staff about quality control and compliance improvement projects
- Clean and disinfect laboratory spaces and equipment using molecular, PCR-clean cleaning techniques
- Ensure and communicate testing inventory supply needs
- Help team with process and accession specimens
- Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Laboratory Director or Research Director
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in the Life Sciences (verification of diploma and transcripts will be required)
- Ability to thrive in a team-environment and independently
- Ability and skillset to follow SOP’s and EOP’s
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve technical issues while communicating effectively with laboratory staff and leadership team
- Critical thinking skills
Preferred Qualifications
- PCR testing experience
- 6 months experience of working in a laboratory experience
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, clinical lab science, or medical technology
- ASCP Certification
