Medical Lab Scientist

SHIELD Illinois is a screening testing program and infrastructure that deploys the University of Illinois’ innovative saliva test across the state. Responsibilities

  • Follow testing procedures and policies
  • Perform routine and complex procedures outlined in the SOP’s
  • Prepare dilution buffers and create RT-PCR master mix solutions
  • Learn and understand robotic software and various PCR-related software
  • Contribute and communicate with leadership and staff about quality control and compliance improvement projects
  • Clean and disinfect laboratory spaces and equipment using molecular, PCR-clean cleaning techniques
  • Ensure and communicate testing inventory supply needs
  • Help team with process and accession specimens
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Laboratory Director or Research Director

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in the Life Sciences (verification of diploma and transcripts will be required)
  • Ability to thrive in a team-environment and independently
  • Ability and skillset to follow SOP’s and EOP’s
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve technical issues while communicating effectively with laboratory staff and leadership team
  • Critical thinking skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • PCR testing experience
  • 6 months experience of working in a laboratory experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, clinical lab science, or medical technology
  • ASCP Certification

Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour

Education:

  • Bachelor's (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Pipetting and PCR: 1 year (Preferred)
  • CLIA: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Wet Lab: 1 year (Preferred)
