Clubhouse Horticulturalist, Part Time

We're hiring a Horticulturalist for Wickenburg Ranch Golf and Social Club in Arizona!

Ideal candidates have a passion for gardening and nurturing our grounds. As a Horticulturalist / Gardener you will be responsible for landscaping, maintaining an annual plan for seasonal plants, keeping up to date with current fertilizers, and more. Beginner Horticulturalists / Gardeners are welcome – while knowledge of grounds maintenance is preferred, previous experience is not required for the position.

Ideal candidates have flexible schedules with availability to work weekends and holidays, as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provides care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, and trees on the facility grounds including pruning, trimming, root feeding and pest control
• Assists staff on the planting of new vegetation, the replacement and spraying of trees and shrubs, and tending to high stress areas especially during the summer months
• Maintains detailed annual plans for the seasonal rotation of plants, flowers, etc., in the facility’s various landscaped areas and flowerbeds resulting in fresh, eye-catching and pleasant flower and plant displays
• Stays attuned with current fertilizer and pesticide application
• Participates in the application of fertilizers and pesticide
• Prepares soil plant beds, established by seed or transplants, and maintains annual perennial flowers in aesthetically pleasing arrangements
• Participates the operation of mechanical and power equipment utilized in the maintenance of ornamental plants and trees
• Coordinates snow removal (where applicable)
• Assists in the management of department members that may include, but is not limited to Landscapers and Foreman
• Assists in developing ongoing training programs
• Assists in monitoring business volume forecast and plans accordingly in areas of manpower, productivity, costs and other expenses
• Incorporates safe work practices in job performance
• Performs other duties as required

Education and Experience Requirements

• Associate degree (AA); or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Driver’s License
• Pesticide Application License
• Ability to read and speak English may be required in order to perform the duties of the job (e., the associates may be required to communicate with English speaking customers or co-workers, the manuals for the equipment the associates may use are in English)

• Frequently uses hands
• Regularly stands, walks, sits, climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, and crawls
• Frequently lifts, moves, and carries up to 50 pounds; to push or pull up to 100 pounds
• Regularly exposed to hot and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts, compact spaces, hot attic temperatures, and outside weather conditions
• Noise level is moderate
