Compass Pointe Golf Courses and The Learning Center at Compass Pointe: Compass Pointe Golf Courses is a busy 36-hole facility with over 77,000 rounds played annually. The Learning Center is now in it’s fifth season and generates over $320,000 in revenue. The instructional programming includes Junior Summer Camps (400 students), Operation 36, U13 & U17 Development Leagues, Junior Academy, Adult Group, Private Instruction and Club Fittings.
Position Overview: The Director of Instruction is responsible for organizing, developing, promoting, scheduling, and conducting golf instructional programs for the guests of Compass Pointe and the surrounding community. The Director of Instruction will be key in the growth of Compass Pointe’s fulltime Teaching Professional.
Pay Range: $100,000 BOE
Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Develop and deliver a comprehensive instructional program that meets and exceeds the students’ needs and expectations including individual private golf instruction, adult instructional clinics for all skill levels, junior clinics and camps for all skill levels and training and development of instructional staff.
- Effectively manage all aspects of the Learning Center.
- Knowledge of the Operation 36 Program
- Direct the golf instruction and player development programming.
- Monitor instructional budget closely and approve instruction related departmental income and expense statements.
- Promote the Learning Center to develop a reputation in regional and national golf and instruction community.
- Welcome students, “meeting and greeting” as practical throughout the day. Developing ongoing rapport and dialogue and being present at course functions as needed.
- Coordinate with the course communications team to create materials, digital content, and/or documents for all instructional programs, events, and programs, ensuring brand standards are met.
- Ensures consistent communications and messaging to students and guests.
- Educates the teaching staff throughout the year with clinics and roundtable sessions.
- Actively custom fits clubs, as custom fitting is an integral part to helping students play their best game.
- Schedules, organizes, and promotes programs with guest instructors.
- Works as a team within the golf department to deliver strong communication and achieve member satisfaction in all areas of the teaching/instruction operation as well as the golf operation.
- Attend meetings of golf operations team.
- May perform other assignments and duties, as needs require.
Candidate Profile: The Director of Instruction reports to the General Manager. Given the leading role this individual will play in achieving the strategic and business objectives of Compass Pointe Golf Courses, it is essential that the successful candidate possess the following core competencies, experience, and attributes:
Leadership Skills:
- A dynamic leader with five or more years of experience as an instructor at a high-quality, high volume private country club with a proven track record of hiring, training, managing other instructors and leading by example.
- A self-starter with results-oriented work style combined with exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates energy and desire to interact with the membership.
- Experience building instructional programs through personal relationships, technical ability, and use of technology to increase lesson volume and member satisfaction.
- Knowledgeable about equipment trends, and able to create and maintain a mutually beneficial relationship with vendors.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of five years of experience as an instructor.
- Must be a Class A Member of PGA/LPGA
