Located in picturesque Bluffton, SC, Belfair is a thriving community strategically positioned near Hilton Head, Beaufort, and Savannah. We are currently seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our dynamic team. Reporting directly to the Assistant Controller, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Chief Financial Officer, Assistant Controller, and accounting staff.

A solid grasp of accounting principles, with a specialized focus on Accounts Receivable functions, is required. This position will serve as the primary point of contact in accounting for our membership, requiring excellent communication and adept problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Accounts Receivable Management

• Oversee all aspects of Accounts Receivable functions, including daily deposits, reconciliation of receivables, and addressing member billing inquiries.
• Complete and review daily end-of-day reports.
• Prepare and distribute monthly member statements with accuracy and timeliness.
• Resolve billing disputes promptly and efficiently to ensure positive member relations.

1. Financial Integrity

• Maintain the integrity of financial records by preparing monthly journal entries and conducting thorough account analysis.
• Ensure accuracy in managing and reviewing member database information to support financial reporting.

1. Month-End Processes

• Collaborate in the month-end close process, assisting in reconciliations, accruals, and other financial activities as required.
• Support audit processes by providing necessary documentation and participating in audit inquiries.

1. Project Support and Collaboration

• Assist the Assistant Controller and CFO in various projects, providing financial insights and analysis as needed.
• Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve departmental goals and objectives.

1. Communication and Customer Service

• Maintain effective communication with both membership and staff, addressing inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
• Foster positive relationships with members to ensure satisfaction and retention.

1. Accounts Payable Backup

• Provide backup support for Accounts Payable functions during peak periods or staff absences.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in an accounting role.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, and experience with accounting software such as Jonas (or similar).
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on delivering clear and concise information.
