What are the responsibilities and job description for the GENERAL MANUFACTURING - 1ST SHIFT position at True Value?
The General Manufacturing associate sets up and operates machinery and equipment that manufactures coatings (paint, lacquer, and stain) or paint roller covers. Computes amounts and/or weights of raw materials from standard formula. Inspects finished product to ensure it meets specifications following standard operating procedures. Maintains record of finished product issued and inventory of supplies on hand and receives raw materials.
Scheduled Days: Monday through Friday Hours: 6am to 2:30pm
Starting Rate: $18.50
Responsibilities (May perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned).
1. (Follows all SOPs for work area. Selects the correct raw material/parts, accurately measures raw materials/parts to specifications and prepares for production processing. Computes amounts and/or weights of material required from standard formula or other written documentation and loads specified amounts into tank/machine.
2. Sets up and operates machinery and equipment that manufactures coatings (paint, lacquer, stain, aerosol concentrate and chemicals) or paint roller covers.
3. COATINGS:
a. Utilizes appropriate mixing equipment (mixers, drum rollers, etc.) for preparation of raw materials to obtain specified consistency, viscosity, and color. Performs raw material adds, adjusts the equipment accordingly, and observes mixing/blending to detect irregularities.
4. ROLLER COVERS:
a. Mounts materials on core winder machine feeding devices. Starts machine and observes flow of material through machine to detect irregular winding and cutting. Makes adjustments to align material per specifications to cardboard core.
5. Inspects finished product to ensure it meets specifications following standard operating procedures.
6. Maintains record of finished product issued and inventory of supplies on hand and receives raw materials.
7. Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
8. Conduct preventive equipment maintenance as needed.
Education & Experience
· High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
· 1-3 years of experience, preferably in Manufacturing or similar industry.
· Intermediate knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Physical Requirements
· Balancing, Climbing, Crouching, Hearing, Kneeling, Lifting, Pulling, Pushing, Reaching, Repetitive Motion, Seeing, Sitting, Standing, Stooping, Talking, Typing, Visual Acuity, Walking.
· Must have ability to work with chemicals, paints, solvents and wear a respirator.
· Normal physical agility, which includes the ability to maneuver body while in place. Must be able to stand the majority of the day, walk up to 5 miles a day, bend, reach, twist, and lift.
· Normal physical strength to handle and/or move objects up to 75 pounds, taking frequency into consideration.
Work Environment:
· The work is typically active and physical in nature and requires normal accessibility to all work sites required of the position. The position may require extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
· The position is typically working in areas where air conditioning is unavailable and may be exposed to chemicals that are routinely present in the Company’s paint manufacturing facility.
