Highly experienced tax professional with specialized knowledge and expertise.Manage a team within the Corporate Tax department and provide thought leadership with comprehensive knowledge within the most complex tax disciplines, crossing multiple areas of specialization, effectively managing resources to produce timely and quality work in the areas of compliance, planning, and controversy, and engaging with Tax senior management and business partners, advising on the impact of tax issues and changes.
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Direct the preparation and use of all tax records and information, as required, for proper completion of federal, state, and local tax returns. Includes reviewing and overseeing the preparation of such returns, effectively managing resources and escalating issues where appropriate.
2. Research, analyze and resolve the most complex tax issues, applying a thorough understanding of relevant tax law and tax and regulatory accounting principles and concepts. Document and communicate solutions (both verbally and in writing) to tax and non-tax professionals at various levels within the organization.
3. Supervise the maintenance of accounting for income tax records necessary for proper Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) financial statement presentation.
4. Resolve the most complex issues leveraging strong and broad relationships throughout the enterprise.
5. Function as a team leader or manager of managers and staff, leading teams on highly complex and visible projects with notable resource requirements and risk. Mentor and coach less experienced teammates to build their own technical expertise and delegate work as appropriate.
6. Engage with business partners to analyze the tax implications of proposed and existing business transactions, identifying and researching solutions, and appropriately communicating conclusions.
7. Identify and analyze tax planning opportunities and manage broad-based project teams to effectively implement tax planning initiatives.
8. Coordinate and review responses to inquiries from taxing authorities. Effectively communicate with taxing authorities to manage the audit process, where appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
1. Bachelor's degree and CPA.
2. 10 years of professional experience including Big 4 or large corporate tax experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
3. 6 years of reviewing moderate to complex tax returns and leading teams.
4. Specialized knowledge in bank taxation, state tax, and/or tax accounting.
5. Advanced understanding of principles, practices, theories and/or methodologies associated with the tax discipline, including knowledge of tax return software.
6. Strong computer skills in Excel and other Microsoft products.
7. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
8. Advanced analytical skills and tax research skills and the ability to solve complex technical and business problems.
9. Strong attention to detail.
10. Ability to exercise judgement in solving technical, operational, and organizational challenges in the context of business objectives and priorities.
11. Ability to work independently, with guidance in only the most complex and unusual situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. 12 years of Big 4 or large corporate tax experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Advanced degree in Taxation (MS or JD/LLM).
3. Banking or financial services taxation experience.
