Data Modeler
Location: Remote / some travel required
Department: Information Technology / Data Analytics
Reports to: Sr. Director Engineering
Role Summary:
The Data Modeler should have extensive hands-on experience in developing Conceptual, Logical and Physical Data Models for our Data Platform Engineering team. Candidate must have experience in developing large scale data models supporting and enabling multiple lines of business.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop conceptual, logical, physical models and metadata solutions in ERWIN Data modeler.
- Design and maintain blueprint of data integrations and controls aligned to the renewed business strategy.
- Create Data Dictionary in Erwin for the Data warehouse Environment.
- Determine database structural requirements by analyzing client operations, applications and data from existing systems.
- Participate in requirement engineering, working groups and collaborate with business leads, operations, SMEs, technologists and governance teams.
- Create source to target documents based on the design.
- Incorporate data standards and implement governance model.
- Develop data flows, ownership matrixes and data lineage.
- Implemented physical data model, contribute to the system and operational design, carry out optimization for usability and performance.
- Ensure essential procedures are followed and help define operating standards and processes.
- Operate with limited direct supervision.
- Functional responsibilities including, but not limited to:
- Performance Reviews
- One-on-one peer and leader meetings
- Time and schedule management
- Collaboration
Technology Skills:
- Must have expert level (hands-on) knowledge and understanding with AWS and ERWIn Data Modeler.
- Data Modeling including dimensional/reporting, data warehousing and transactional use cases (Physical and Logical modelling).
- Performance optimizations on AWS S3/SQL tuning and investigation of bottlenecks.
- Ability to translate architecture and low-level requirements to design and code using SQL.
- Hands-on AWS experience and how to design parquet files for a given application a plus.
- Knowledge on various Lambda function libraries and API’s for different programming languages and platforms.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the differences between typical relational and NoSQL database development and access methodologies.
- Design logical and physical data models for performance aligned to business use cases.
- Hands on SQL features including Indexes, Partitioning, Bulk loads, DB configuration and Security/Roles
- Scale and optimize performance via schema design, query tuning, and index creation.
- Knowledge of reporting and query tools and practices
Qualifications:
- 7-10 years hand-on experience in Data Architecture, Data Science and/or Data Modeling expertise with bachelor’s degree and/or certification in related data architecture and modeling field.
- Financial industry knowledge in lending, risk management, servicing and risk/regulatory reporting.
- Product knowledge in commercial banking, capital and investment banking and markets
- Extensive experience in relational/hierarchical/OLAP/Big Data concepts.
- Hands-on modeling and metadata management tools.
- Expertise in Data Management methodologies involving architecture, modeling, storage, security.
- Good understanding of data governance including defining strategy, goals, principles and policies.
- Prior experience in data integration, interoperability and data quality solutions.
- Analytical problem solver with excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
- Working knowledge of modeling tools such as Magic Draw and Enterprise Architect.
