JOB TITLE: Interim Elementary Principal (temporary position)
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
TERM: January 2nd through June 30th 2024
SALARY: Commensurate with Experience
JOB SUMMARY:
The Interim Principal is delegated authority by the School Committee through the Superintendent of Schools. He/she/they must administer the affairs of a school building within the system's policies and to make decisions necessary for implementing the policies.
The major responsibility of the Principal is to direct the academic growth and development of the students within the Hastings Elementary School. The ideal candidate will not only be responsive to curriculum and instructional needs, but to the needs of ALL students within the school and provide an equitable learning environment.
The Interim Principal is responsible for recommending prospective personnel for staffing purposes and in organizing instructional programs and facilities. While at times responsibilities may be delegated to other staff members, the Interim Principal, ultimately, is the person accountable for their results. In addition, the Interim Principal will be responsible for providing information on the school's programs to parents and the community.
Finally, as part of the Westborough Leadership Team, the Interim Principal will work closely with the Superintendent and the other administrators in the District to help ensure quality public education in Westborough.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree with substantial graduate study in educational administration, supervision and evaluation preferred
- Massachusetts Certification (or eligible for certification) as Principal/Assistant Principal (Elementary) required
- A minimum of three years of successful administrative experience as a Principal or Assistant Principal at the elementary level
- A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience at the elementary level preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
- Comprehensive administrative and management skills
- Stellar speaking and writing skills
- Completion of DESE mandated CORI and fingerprinting
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Supervise curriculum development to assure the implementation of established programs of study, and provide for the planning and adaptations of programs to meet the needs of individual students.
- Classify, promote and retain students within the school.
- Supervise and evaluate all professional and support staff in the building.
- Direct all organization, supervision and administration within Hastings Elementary School.
- Establish and maintain a program of public relations to further the community's understanding and support of the educational programs.
- Order instructional supplies and equipment and oversee the condition of the building.
- Ensure the general conduct of all students under his/her supervision.
- Assist in the recruitment of staff/personnel.
- Evaluate the instructional program and appraise pupil growth.
- Communicate with parents and guardians in person, verbally, and in writing regarding any student matters.
- Prepare and supervise all staff and student schedules involving such matters as the daily instructional periods, cafeteria, special programming and transportation.
- Follow the District policies in such matters as attendance, school hours, fire/safety drills, field trips and extracurricular activities. The Interim Principal will be responsible for knowing and following the policies of the School Committee and the regulations of the school system.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or her designee.
