Summer's Edge at Camp Thoreau is looking for a certified, experienced Nature Program Head to supervise our program in beautiful, wooded West Concord! Serving campers age 4 - 14, the Nature Program Head is responsible for developing and delivering a nature/environmental education program that is appropriate for the age and ability of our campers and utilizes the camp's natural environment. Topics can include geology and soils, plant adaptations, wildlife habitat, basic astronomy, water studies, animal science, natural history and more!
The Program Head is also responsible for maintaining the Nature or Environmental equipment, such as microscopes, magnifying glasses, compasses, etc. as well as conducting a daily check of the area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
Additionally, Program Heads participate as a member of the camp staff team and help deliver and supervise special camp events and other all-camp activities as needed.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
Documented experience or certification in nature or environmental instruction or documented training and experience
Training and experience in teaching nature or environmental studies to children
Desire and ability to work with children outdoors in varied conditions
Knowledge of natural history, biology, ecology, and related fields
Current certification in First Aid/CPR/AED or willingness to obtain
COMMITMENT AND PAY:
Mandatory staff training will take place each Monday and Wednesday evening in June from 4-8pm.
The 8-week camp seasons runs from June 26 - August 18 (no camp on Monday, July 3rd or Tuesday, July 4th).
Hours: 8:30am - 3:45pm (this includes a daily 30-minute break), with one weekly afternoon staff meeting.
Pay: $5,000 for the season (pay commensurate with experience and credentials), payable bi-weekly. Hourly wage starts at $16/hr.
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS:
All camp staff receive a complimentary summer membership to The Thoreau club, with access to the modern fitness center, tennis courts and outdoor pools.
