- One to two years teaching in a classroom preferred.
- Related Experience: animal health specialists, veterinarian, conservation scientists, environmental science and protection technicians, extension agent, farm and ranch manager, foresters, horticulturist, integrated agriculture production specialist, landscaping and grounds keeping workers, nursery technician, wildlife enforcement officer, zoologists and wildlife biologists
- Appropriate credential for this position.
- Preferred clear Ag Specialist and clear Single Subject Ag credentials.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and/or group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds.
- Provide instruction to students with special needs in accordance with IEP, using support services as appropriate and participate in IEP meetings as appropriate.
- Develop and teach skills and knowledge in one or more courses or grade levels, using courses of study adopted by the Board of Trustees including NC Agriculture Standards.
- Maintain proper control and discipline in a positive manner by establishing good rapport between students and others involved in the learning processes and in accordance with district policy and procedure.
- Evaluate pupil progress, keep appropriate records, prepare progress reports, and effectively communicate student progress with pupils, administrators and parents.
- Perform basic attendance accounting/reporting duties as directed by district policy.
- Maintain professional competence through participation in professional growth activities as well as those available through Pender County Schools.
- Develop and communicate curricular and instructional plans and objectives to students and parents including course descriptions, performance expectations and other pertinent information to allow parental monitoring.
- Guide pupils in selection of appropriate class projects, experiments, and home supervised project or
- Maintain surveillance over storage and use of school-owned materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse.
- Make minor adjustments and requests repairs to tools and equipment as required.
- Maintain contact with agriculture community to keep in touch with job entry requirements.
- Instruct pupils in importance of accuracy, individual resourcefulness, and good work habits in obtaining and retaining jobs in the agriculture industry.
- Participate in ordering of shop materials, supplies, and parts as required, working under established budget and procedures.
- Provide related instruction with field, shop, laboratory cooperative work or other occupational experience that is appropriate to the vocational objective of the student.
- Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities associated with agriculture program.
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within school of assignment and/or on a district level.
- Work with citizens' advisory committees in development of specific agriculture education programs.
- Work under modular or flexible scheduling plans.
- Fulfill his/her out-of-school and summer responsibilities as assigned.
- Train teams for agricultural competitive events as well as attending FFA activities from the Local level, to Regional, and up to the National level.
- Administer group standardized tests.
- Plan, coordinate and oversee the work of para-professionals.
- Attend professional meetings called by administrators, or other meetings such as SST's and IEP's.
- Enforce the use of the textbooks that are currently adopted by the district Board of Trustees for the grade level which the teacher is assigned.
- Identify pupil needs, and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Ensure that students are not left in the classroom at any time without teacher supervision.
- Willingness to update skills and knowledge commensurate with the demands of this position.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
