JOB SUMMARY
Implements a mathematics program which reflects current research findings, mathematics standards and is responsive to all students in Anne Arundel County Public Schools. Develops and evaluates effective mathematics e-curricula and assessments based on current research findings and standards including the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS). Creates and provides effective professional development to teachers, school based leadership and system partners. Makes recommendations on materials of instruction which effectively support the mathematics program. Provides direct support to schools by assisting teachers and school based leadership with implementation of curriculum through planning for and modeling of effective instructional strategies and coaching of individual teachers and teams as requested by school based leadership. Analyzes district and school-based assessment data and supports teachers in analyzing student progress when making instructional decisions. When tasked, serves in the absence of the Coordinator of Secondary Mathematics (HS) in all capacities and assignments. Serves as a member of the Mathematics Resource Team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Acts as a strategic and collaborative member of the Secondary Mathematics team to communicate AACPS philosophy, goals, and expectations of assessment, curriculum, and instruction to school staff and the community.
- Provides leadership to teachers, school based leadership and assists in the implementation of a comprehensive mathematics program to improve achievement across all student groups.
- Supports other Secondary Mathematics office staff with their roles and responsibilities as necessary.
- Models best practices in classroom instruction based on the standards through classroom, school-based, and district workshops.
- Assists teachers with designing lessons that engage students in making connections among mathematics core ideas, practices, cross-cutting concepts and other disciplines.
- Works with school teams to model collaborative and instructional planning, analysis of instructional delivery, and use of formative and summative data to improve instruction.
- Supports all school based leadership with enhancing capacity for mathematics instruction.
- Makes school visits to observe implementation of curriculum and provide feedback and assistance as needed.
- Cultivates and supports department chairpersons, team leaders, and individual teachers as an additional point of contact and uses this opportunity to enhance communication between schools and the mathematics office.
- Assists with articulation between grade levels.
- Collaborate with other offices and programs such as STEM, IB, Science, Reading, Environmental Literacy and Outdoor Education, to bring an interdisciplinary real-world relevance to the Mathematics curricula and teacher professional development.
- Collaborate with Internship Facilitators to support the attainment of high-quality, math-rich internships for high school students.
- Collaborate with the IB Office to assure quality mathematics curricula for all IB-MYP and IB-DP students.
- Assists teachers with the construction, use, and interpretation of multiple and varied assessment opportunities to allow students to demonstrate their proficiencies with the standards and assessments.
- Develops multi-component tasks that make use of a variety of response formats.
- Develops classroom assessments that are as an integral part of instruction and reinforce the type of mathematics learning envisioned in standard's framework.
- Works with colleagues to analyze district data and build teacher capacity around data in order to improve teacher effectiveness and student learning.
- Works directly with the coordinator to develop, review, and approve all district-level assessments.
- Facilitates the development or revision of mathematics eCurriculum based on the standards in order for students to demonstrate their learning by showing mastery.
- Facilitates the development of authentic application-orientated, STEM-rich, students centered curricular experiences within all levels of curricula.
- Provides and manages eCurriculum resources through the online curriculum management system to assist teachers in the engagement of students in mathematics.
- Works with committees to evaluate and select materials of instruction and equipment which support the mathematics program.
- Works directly with the coordinator to develop, review, and approve all eCurriculum documents.
- Leads professional development initiatives for individual teachers, school teams and teachers at district level meetings to create a student centered learning climate.
- Provides professional development in curriculum implementation by helping educators marry disciplinary core ideas, mathematics practices, and cross-cutting concepts.
- Possesses knowledge of current trends and research in mathematics and computer science education. Continues personal professional growth through professional reading, attendance at conferences and workshops, and membership in formal and informal professional associations and societies.
- Shows dedication to maintaining familiarity with state of the art web-based technologies for use in the classroom and office.
- Represents the district at State and other meetings.
- Facilitates and/or participate in evening and summer Office of Mathematics meeting and workshops that may be critical to the Mathematics Program - scheduling vacation plans around said meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education
- Master's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
Experience
- Three (3) years successful classroom teaching experience in mathematics or computer science at the secondary level required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
- Command of Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS) required.
- Knowledge of current trends in Computer Science (AI, Big Data, Data Science, etc.) suggested.
- Demonstrated teacher leadership. Experience as a school-based teacher leader (team leader, department chair, etc.) preferred.
- Ability to communicate (verbally, in writing and through the effective use of technology) with professional staff, students, and parents.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations (students, parents, school-system staff, and the community) required.
- Ability to employ business technology tools (e.g. E-mail, AACPS Intranet, electronic benefits enrolment tool, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
Licenses and Certifications
