TITLE: Van Driver
RESPONSIBLE TO: Transportation Supervisor
DEPARTMENT: Transportation
CLASSIFICATION: Van Driver
LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Nine-month contract - 188-day contract (hours depend on route)
GENERAL DUTIES: Safely operate a school van transporting students to and from different locations
Qualifications
The following responsibilities are representative, but not limited to those performed by a Van Driver.
Employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment with the District.

Job Description
TITLE: Van Driver
RESPONSIBLE TO: Transportation Supervisor
DEPARTMENT: Transportation
CLASSIFICATION: Van Driver
LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Nine-month contract - 188-day contract (hours depend on route)
GENERAL DUTIES: Safely operate a school van transporting students to and from different locations
Qualifications
- Twenty-one (21) years of age with a valid Ohio Driver's License.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of two years driving experience.
- Complete a satisfactory BCI and FBI Background check.
- Successful completion of semi-annual driver record checks through the Ohio Department of Education showing less than six (6) points and no more than two (2) serious traffic violations during the past two (2) years.
- Good physical health passing required a physical exam and satisfactory pre-employment and ongoing random drug tests.
- Available to work between the hours of 6:00 - 9:30 am and 1:30 - 5:00 pm.
- Ability to complete the Ohio Pre-Service Van Driver Training Program.
- Insurable as defined by the insurance carrier of the Marion City Schools Board of Education.
- Demonstrates maturity and ability to work with students with physical and mental disabilities and their families.
The following responsibilities are representative, but not limited to those performed by a Van Driver.
- Transport students with various special needs safely to and from school and school related activities/events.
- Assist students in and out of the van, which may include securing students properly including lifting students in and out of car seats.
- Properly inspect, install, and remove any type of car seats into the van.
- Verify students are under the supervision of appropriate school staff before departing school and appropriate parent/guardian when departing at their home stop.
- Properly maintain electronic devices on a daily basis.
- Perform and document a pre-trip inspection of the school van on a daily basis.
- Advise mechanics regarding necessary van repairs.
- Maintain adequate cleanliness of van.
- Adhere to all applicable safety rules and regulations.
- Adhere to district board policies and guidelines.
- Cleans the inside of the van daily and outside of van when needed.
- Keeps fuel in the van and sees that the oil and water are checked regularly.
- Attends safety meetings as directed.
- Administers necessary first aid in case of an accident.
- Does evacuation and safety drills on their van routes.
- Performs such other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor/designee. '
