JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE OF JOB: Athletic Coach
QUALIFICATIONS: Eligible for a fulltime teaching position at Truth or Consequences Municipal Schools.
Have at least five years coaching experience.
Hold certification through NFHS, which includes:
1. NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
2. First Aid, Health and Safety for Coaches
3. Sport Specific (courses) Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Track, Softball, etc.
4. Concussions in Sports
5. Sportsmanship
6. Creating a Safe and Respectful Environment
7. A Guide to Heat Acclimatization
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director and Principal
JOB GOAL: To develop and implement an exemplary program that will effectively provide the best possible education for each student athlete.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Professional:
- Comply with school site and school board policies and regulations.
- Comply with school and NMAA League policies and regulations.
- Work cooperatively with all staff.
- Relate positively to parents and other community representatives.
- Demonstrate professional growth.
- Be prompt and accurate with required records and reports.
- Be responsible for the district program 7th – 12th grade.
- Evaluate assistant coaches.
- Accept responsibilities outside the team as they relate to the school and community.
- Assume responsibility for care of materials, equipment and facilities.
- Assume responsibility for a neat, safe environment for student athletes.
- Assume other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Superintendent.
Interpersonal:
- Practice and promote positive interaction with and among student athletes, the school and community.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for coaching and learning.
- Demonstrate an interest in student athletes and the overall athletic program.
- Encourage self-direction and self-motivation in students.
- Create clearly defined standards of behavior and academic performance.
- Refrain from foul or inappropriate language while dealing with students, parents and staff.
Instructional Performance:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the area being coached.
- Demonstrate the ability to adjust instruction of strategy and fundamentals to student athletes’ needs and interests.
- Maintain an organized program based on effective long range goals.
- Exhibit evidence of effective planning and organization.
- Utilize a variety of appropriate strategies and resources.
- Communicate fundamental coaching expectations and the importance to students.
- Utilize appropriate and varied coaching techniques and learning activities.
- Maintain an effective system of monitoring student progress and inform appropriate staff.
- Maintain discipline appropriate to a learning situation.
- Use positive reinforcement and constructive criticism to maintain good student discipline.
