TST Fab & Machine is looking for a Federal Estimator who will play a pivotal role in understanding the intricate requirements for Department of Defense (DOD) manufacturing, Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) compliance, and other regulatory standards. The candidate’s primary responsibility will be to accurately estimate the cost to machine or fabricate parts for government customers, with a specific focus on meeting the rigorous demands of the DOD and the US Navy.

- Requirement Analysis: Thoroughly review and analyze project specifications, technical drawings, and other relevant documentation to understand the scope and requirements of each manufacturing project.
- DFARS Compliance: Stay updated on the latest changes and updates to DFARS regulations, ensuring full compliance with all applicable standards and requirements in the estimation process.
- Cost Estimation: Utilize your expertise in fabrication and machining processes to develop detailed cost estimates for manufacturing projects, considering factors such as material costs, labor hours, equipment usage, overhead expenses, and profit margins.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and challenges associated with each project and incorporate risk mitigation strategies into the cost estimation process.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, project managers, procurement specialists, and quality assurance personnel, to gather relevant information and ensure alignment throughout the estimation process.
- Customer Interaction: Communicate effectively with government customers to clarify requirements, address concerns, and negotiate pricing when necessary, maintaining a high level of professionalism and customer satisfaction.
- Continuous Improvement: Actively seek opportunities to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and enhance the accuracy of cost estimation methods, contributing to the overall success and competitiveness of our fabrication and machine shop.
JOB Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating, preferably in a manufacturing environment with a focus on government contracts and defense-related projects.
- Strong understanding of DOD manufacturing requirements, DFARS regulations, and other relevant compliance standards.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to accurately assess costs, risks, and project complexities.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external customers.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality results on time and within budget.
- Proficiency in relevant software tools and applications, such as CAD/CAM software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel.
