JOB TITLE: Accounting Generalist
REPORTS TO: Accounting Supervisor
SUPERVISES: None
EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-Exempt
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide support to all Accounting Department functions including: general ledger accounting and account reconciliation, accounts payable, branch balancing, and purchasing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts and resolve account reconciliation issues.
- Prepare/input journal entries as needed.
- Assist in the preparation of period-end financial reporting.
- Complete analysis and other assignments relating to assigned duties including process improvements.
- Abide by state and federal banking regulations. Attend training sessions and complete compliance training on an annual basis. Maintain member and TFCU privacy and confidentiality.
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and update standard operating procedure documentation relating to assigned job duties.
- Communicate with members and employees verbally, in writing, and on the phone. Respond to internal and external member inquiries.
- Engage in behavior that aligns with the credit union’s cultural beliefs.
- Gain and retain a high-level knowledge of all TFCU products, policies and procedures.
- Adhere to TFCU’s attendance and punctuality policy.
- Maintain a professional businesslike appearance in accordance with TFCU’s dress code policy.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILIITIES:
Education: High school diploma or its equivalent required. Associate degree with an emphasis in Accounting or Business preferred.
Experience: Basic accounting courses and one-year experience in credit union/banking or accounting related functions preferred.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of accounting policies and procedures.
- Ability to gain and retain knowledge of the Credit Union accounting and data processing systems with emphasis in the area of member accounts, and account transactions.
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite products, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations involving decimals, percentages, fractions, etc. Ability to apply mathematical and accounting principles to solve complex problems.
- Ability to detect and trace account errors and make the necessary corrections.
Availability: Monday through Friday, as scheduled.

- Sit, Stand, Walk and Bend: While performing the duties of this job, this position is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk. Bending is also sometimes required to reach low cabinets and drawers.
- Use of Hands/Fingers: To operate a computer, keyboard, mouse and other office machinery such as but not limited to; a calculator, copy machine, and printer. Additionally, this position is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
- Speech/Hearing: This position frequently communicates via phone and in person. Must be able to talk to/hear members and educate them on products and services offered at the credit union.
- Lifting: The ability to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. is required for this position.
