Job Summary

Leads all Environmental, Health and Safety programs, initiatives and compliance for the organization.  Acts as a resource to all areas, and is responsible for all aspects of safety, health and environmental issues, processes, training, documentation, reporting and compliance at Tufco.  Develops and implements necessary EH&S programs and develops and instills a positive safety culture and associate attitude throughout the organization and to all associates.  Responsible for all EHS-related regulatory agency (OSHA, EPA, DNR, etc.) compliance, including program and process development, training, documentation, reporting, auditing, and permitting for the organization.

 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Leads safety, health, and environmental programs in alignment with Tufco’s leadership values and direction, and is a resource to all associates and management
  • Creates and updates required safety and environmental programs
  • Creates, leads and builds a safety culture throughout the organization
  • Provides safety/environmental training and orientation programs for all associates in conjunction with OSHA compliance programs and Tufco practices, maintaining appropriate training documentation
  • Develops, tracks and analyzes safety statistics, makes improvement recommendations, and establishs corrective action programs
  • Reports to management on a timely basis trends and compliance issues, outcome of audits, and provides recommendations to correct any issues/trends
  • Compiles data and prepares reports as needed for OSHA and other regulatory agencies
  • Coordinates and facilitates safety events such as safety committee meetings and toolbox safety discussions
  • Conducts safety reviews and recommendations on new projects.
  • Audits facilities to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations, analyzing workplace safety and health hazards, as well as, evaluating industrial hygiene testing, auditing of PPE, machine guarding, signage, etc., reporting results to management
  • Participates in OSHA or other compliance inspections
  • Stays current on safety, health and environmental regulation changes at the Federal, State, and local level in order to:
    1. Research, develop, implement, and maintain company safety/environmental policies and procedures to ensure continued compliance with regulations, ensuring recordkeeping requirements are met
    2. Develop procedures for the proper receipt, storage, handling, labeling, transporting, application of and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials
    3. Develop procedures for the proper monitoring, documenting and reporting of any necessary air emissions.
  • Responsible for implementing established safety procedures, utilization of safety equipment and devices, and eliminating hazardous conditions and unsafe practices
  • Leads the investigation of all serious accidents/injuries, and monitors investigations of all minor accidents, injuries, and near misses to ensure a thorough investigation was completed, and follow up as needed to identify corrective actions
  • Work with workers’ compensation carrier to ensure the timely return to work or restricted work duty of injured associates, and manage all workers’ compensation activities (reporting and tracking of claims, managing lost days, maintaining OSHA log and recordkeeping, and filing of OSHA reports)
  • Maintain SDS system for all products and chemicals used
  • Monitor, inspect and upkeep of safety items in facilities: first aid kits, AEDs, Sharps containers, fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, signage, posters, etc.
  • Update safety message board with pertinent safety information and updated metrics
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Sciences or other related physical science, or equivalent experience
  • 2 years experience in a safety or environmental function
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA guidelines, reporting requirements, safety basics, etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and related software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a safety related field
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • OSHA safety certification
  • CPR and First Aid Certified
  • 3 or more years in a manufacturing environment
  • 5 or more years in a Safety/Environmental function
  • 1 years experience with OSHA, EPA, and other regulations and standards (NFPA, NIOSH, DNR, etc.), including technical understanding of regulations and standards, as well as current knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.
  • Prior involvement with ISO 9000 Quality Standards

Physical Requirements:

  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time
