Permanent School Bus Driver - guaranteed a minimum two hours in the AM and two hours in the PM. Opportunity to earn eight hours per day (or more) is abundant through midday runs, out of district students and field trips.

POSITION SUMMARY: The job of a School Bus Driver is responsible for transporting students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions; ensuring vehicle is in safe operating condition; and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from buses.

Class B CDL with P and S endorsement preferred (has priority) - at minimum, must have permit to start class.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Operates school vehicles under all types of weather conditions, including, but not limited to, fog, rain, hail, sleet, snow and ice.
- Transports students and other authorized personnel over scheduled routes and/or special excursions as authorized by school district officials.
- Provides first aid and assists students with mobility needs and emergencies as required by state regulations and district policies.
- Services, inspects, and cleans school buses and related equipment as required by state regulations and district policies. Ensures safety inspection of equipment prior to operation and at the end of service.
- Observes and follows all safety practices, rules and regulations.
- Maintains control of student passengers as related to safety. Supervises student conduct as necessary.
- Reports unsafe acts or conditions that require the attention of any person other than the driver. Reports problems to supervisors as needed.
- Completes forms, records, and reports as required by state regulations or district policies.
- Performs related duties of a similar scope and nature as required.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for prolonged periods; climb or balance; and crouch, crawl, bend, or kneel. The employee frequently is required to experience demands from a diversity of others, including students, parents, community and staff. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and operate cleaning equipment.

EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety procedures for school bus operation and traffic laws and rules of the road.
- Possess effective oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental standards necessary to perform the duties, tasks, and responsibilities of a school bus driver as mandated by district policy, and by state and federal law.
- Demonstrated ability to pass agility test as term of employment and continued employment.
- Possess sufficient strength and agility to assist ill or physically impaired students to enter or exit a school bus through the passenger service door.
- Possess sufficient strength and agility to move about in an overturned bus as required to provide assistance to students in evacuating the bus.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and the public.
- Reliable transportation required.
- HIV/Hepatitis certification required after hire. Education High school diploma or general education degree (GED), must be 21 years of age; minimum five (5) years driving experience. Valid Washington State Driver’s License and insurable driving record, with possession and maintenance of valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger, air brake and “S” endorsements; or the ability to obtain a Class “B” CDL upon completion of the training course.

Job Type: Part-time to Full-time - You make it what you need it to be. Routes are a minimum of 4 hours - 2 hours AM (7a-9a) & 2 hours PM (2:15p-4:15p). By seniority you build your route up to 8 hours daily. There is lots of extra time available by doing field trips every day of the week.
Hourly wage: $29.53 to $31.60 /hour based on experience and voe.
