What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crew leader position at Turner Industries?
Turner Specialty Services is looking for Crew Leaders / Operators for Hydroblasting to join our specialty services team in the Lake Charles, LA area.
The Hydroblaster position involves directing blasts of abrasive-laden compressed air or water from a nozzle against metal or hard composite objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart an even finish.
As the Crew Leader / Operator you will have the responsibility to lead crews to perform removal of scales, liquid and solid materials which may be either non-hazardous or hazardous.
All activities will be performed per our standard operating procedures (SOP's).
Functional Requirements :
- Wears gloves and a helmet or hood to protect against breathing sand-laden air and to prevent injury to eyes and hands
- May mask areas not being sandblasted
- May order materials as needed
- Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction
Qualification Standards for Crew Leader / Operators :
- High school or equivalent
- Minimum three (3) years of experience required
- Basic knowledge of hydro blasting equipment and the hazards associated with
- May require NCCER certifications at some jobsites
- Written pre-employment qualification test
- Post-offer drug / alcohol screen and physical evaluation
- Hazard Communication orientation / test
- Turner Industries Group, LLC Indoctrination
- OSHA approved corrective eye wear (Z87)
- Job site orientation
- Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
- Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)
- Applicant / employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace
Physical Involvement :
May be required to do the following : climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.
- reaching in all directions; handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment;
- lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and / or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing / sitting;
- walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching / squatting; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction;
wearing respirator and other PPE; stepstool use; work in excessive heat; work in excessive cold; work in loud environment

work performed in confined areas
Climatic / Environmental Conditions at Job Site : predominantly outdoor climate; may be exposed to extreme hot or cold weather, excessive humidity, rain, etc.
various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc.; potential exposure to chemical substances
