Publication Editor

Turning Point for God is the radio and television ministry of Dr. David Jeremiah, senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church. It is an international ministry with a vision to reach every language group in the world with the Gospel and the teaching of God’s Word. From a modest beginning forty years ago, Turning Point is now accessible by 3 billion people worldwide every day through radio, television, and the Internet.

Position Summary:

The position of Publication Editor reports to the Managing Editor in the Creative Services department and is a member of a team responsible for the organization’s publications, which include a magazine, study guides, books, and other written materials. The Publication Editor reviews written content to ensure it is factually accurate, free from theological, spelling, or grammatical errors, and is ready for publication. An editor needs to recognize the differing types of writing, i.e., formal, informal, marketing, etc., so that copy maintains the tone, style, and perspective of the content and its purpose. Editors also work with graphic designers, web editors, and other professionals to ensure content is ready for printing/viewing once it is put into art. The Publication Editor position includes creating or reformatting written materials into resources that are offered by the ministry and requires having writing skills to make changes when required. The editorial team works within tight deadlines, and each team member must be able to multitask and prioritize assignments to ensure all tasks are completed on time.

Essential Functions:

• Writing, Proofing and Editing Turning Point Resources for:
  • Readability – Copy must flow well, be interesting, and contain good diction
  • Accuracy – Scriptural references and theological teaching must be accurate
  • Voice – Consideration of the specific audience and the origin of each document is required.
  • Consistency – Copy should conform to house rules and reflect proper grammar and punctuation
  • Scholastic Standards – Quotations and references must be verified and certified that there is no conflict with the biblical teaching of the ministry.

Qualifications:

• Excellent proofreading skills
  • Ability to recognize errors in copy and compose suggested corrections
  • Consistent application of grammar/punctuation and house style rules
  • Detail oriented – exhibit superior attention to detail
• Demonstrate proficiency in writing copy for resources and marketing
• Solid grasp of English grammar and punctuation rules
• Above average knowledge of biblical terminology and theology
• Works well with others and/or independently
• Displays research and organizational skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Bachelor’s degree in English or journalism (or equivalent experience)
• Punctual, reliable, and professional
• Experience in ministry a plus

• Position is full‐time, nonexempt, located at Turning Point International Headquarters in Lakeside, CA
• Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8 am – 5 pm
