TOAH is seeking an Experienced Full-time Professional Veterinary Technician (Tier 2) who is proficient in the field of Veterinary Medicine. Here at TOAH, we have established a Tier system that allows our Veterinary Technicians the opportunity to advance within the field based on their experience and knowledge.
As a Tier 2 Veterinary Technician, you must have the following Knowledge and Technical skills:
· Can take a comprehensive history from a client for a routine exam and communicate that information to the Doctor
· Can discuss all core and non-core vaccines
· Can discuss commonly used medication
· Can discuss and educate clients on prescription diets/regular diets available
· Discuss the difference between Spay and Castrating and provide owners with a recommended surgery timeline.
· Can calculate drug dosages and perform basic math conversions
· Able to create a treatment plan and present it to the client
· Can discuss QOL and the euthanasia process
· Can comprehensively discuss flea/tick and heartworm prevention
· Can Identify and name internal parasites and appropriate dewormer/preventative
· Proficient in restraining (Canine, Feline, and pocket pets)
· Can collect specimens and perform routine laboratory procedures and tests in hematology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology
· Can properly operate the Microscope and centrifuge.
· Properly place an IVC- Cephalic and Saphenous.
· Identify and name surgical equipment (Sterilization techniques to sterilize various instruments, materials, and equipment).
· Can discuss common illnesses and diseases
· Able to educate clients on products and medications sold, including dietary products, and answer questions regarding products/use
· Possess basic anesthesia knowledge.
· Ability to monitor basic surgery procedures (Spay, Neuter, growth removals)
· Can take blood pressure vitals
· Can administer SQ, IM, and IV injections
· Proficient in dental scaling, radiographs, polishing, charting, and placing charges
