Job Description


The Director of Electrical Engineering will have a well-rounded knowledge of microcontrollers for embedded systems, networking, servers, analog circuitry, digital circuitry, EMI and RFI, and DC power.  They will support our R&D Engineers in implementation of these concepts as they apply to the electrical connections and electronic components of our autonomous systems. This is a hands-on position and is expected to lead by doing.
 
Responsibilities


•    Oversee electrical system and components of the autonomous systems
•    Select and verify components and connections to adhere to automotive environments and J1455
•    Oversee and manage 3rd party vendors
•    Support verification, validation, and compliance testing
•    Support production in regard to electrical connections and electronic components
•    Prepare electronic hardware requirements, electronic hardware design and FMEA documents
•    Calculate electronic hardware key parameters and WCCA
•    Review and oversee analog and digital designs
•    Oversee and manage network and server requirements for software team needs
•    Lead, manage, motivate and direct the Electrical Engineering (EE) team
•    Responsible for growing and developing staff including EE’s and Technician
 
Technical Skills
•    Experience with high speed interfaces such as USB3, Gigabit, 10G Ethernet, RGMII, SGMII, FPGA serial transceivers, etc 
•    Solid understanding of modern architecture of microprocessors, microcontrollers and GPU architecture with high speed interfaces
•    Experience with communication protocols such as RS-232, RS-422, UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, LIN. 
•    Experience with digital video and image processing in camera systems. Familiar with camera interfaces: MIPI/CSI, GMSL1/2, GigE,       PoE protocols
•    Familiar with signal integrity analysis and simulation environments
•    Familiar with fiber optic networking techniques


Qualifications


•    M.S. or PhD in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering
•    Strong background of embedded system, proficiency in handling modules such as UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, etc.
•    20 years Electrical Engineering experience
•    Solid understanding of analog and digital circuit analysis
•    Experience developing commercial product to completion in Automotive industry
•    Hands-on experience in designing and debugging electrical circuit
•    Experience designing single board computer systems, preferably ARM based, targeted to mobile environments
•    Experience completing verification, validation, and compliance testing (ISO 16750/ SAE J1455)
•    Have experience in environmental constraints (temp, humidity, and vibration), regulatory compliance and product debug (EMC/EMI, ESD, transients, etc.)
•    Demonstrated PCB design experience (schematic diagram, PCB layout, High speed circuit, WCCA)
•    5 years of managing a team of 5 or more in the last 5 years
•    Experience directing talented engineering teams and managing multiple simultaneous projects
•    Demonstrated ability to hire, motivate, mentor and develop teams
•    Experience working with cross-functional teams managing multiple projects including various development models from internal to contract manufacturing.
•    A practical, “hands-on” approach, with the ability to work in a fast paced and often changing environment

Bonus Points


•    Experience with Truck or Automotive OEM  technology
•    Delivered to production an automotive or aerospace grade ECU
•    Delivered solutions in safety critical environments. Specifically, experience with IEC 61508 and/or ISO 26262
•    Experience in common electronic hardware failure mode in vehicle (Connectors, Power, MOSFET, Relays, etc.)
•    Familiar with EMC design and regulations (ESD/RI/CI/BCI/RE/CE)
•    Experience in CAE (EMC simulation, Thermal simulation)
•    Experience in electronic hardware test (black box, white box, grey box)
•    Experience in embedded software for electronic hardware testing
•    Experience in electronic hardware development process establishment and implementation (ISO 16949 / ASPICE / CMMI)
•    Demonstrated wiring harness design experience (Wiring harness diagram, power balance, connectors)
•    Experience in deterministic vs nondeterministic protocols
•    Experience in distributed vs non-distributed systems
