Job Summary
Executive Director of Veterinary Operations promotes the legacy and mission of the College and the University. Works closely with the dean, associate deans, unit directors, faculty, staff, and students to ensure facilities including instruction areas are maintained in compliance with the accreditation standards set by the AVMA Council on Education accrediting agency. Provides leadership, generates reports for strategic planning, develop solutions, and implement policies to be effective in job functions.
Essential Job Duties
Promotes the legacy and mission of the College and the University
Works closely with the dean, associate deans, unit directors, faculty, staff, and students to ensure facilities including instruction areas are maintained in compliance with the accreditation standards set by the AVMA Council on Education accrediting agency
Provides leadership, generates reports for strategic planning, develop solutions, and implement policies to be effective in job functions.
Works closely with the dean to get projects and tasks completed utilizing faculty, staff and student engagement
Works closely with the dean on a regular basis and keep updated on problematic operations in the veterinary complex
Implements and leads a continuous quality improvement process throughout the CVIM and service areas, focusing on systems and process improvements
Manages the day-to-day operations of the CVM relative to facilities, facilities-related projects including the VTH, and special college events
Responsible for maintenance of facilities and makes requests to the university for all infrastructure repairs and upgrades throughout the veterinary complex.
Works closely with the VTH Director, VTH Administrator, Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory Director, and Associate Dean for Research and Advanced Studies to ensure hospital and research facilities are in compliance.
Works closely with the dean to provide leadership with strategic planning of new programmatic initiatives
Participates in expansion planning and implementation projects in the College
Supervise and manage staff assigned and be effective in training and educating to enhance job performance
Serves as the liaison between the CVM and the University to ensure the veterinary complex facilities are safe, and provide an environment that encourages learning, and meet the standards of the College’s accrediting agency
Works closely with Compliance Officers in the college and the university to ensure safety in all areas of the veterinary complex
Ensures that departments/units in the college use proper receptacles for biological waste, which is discarded weekly
Works with IT personnel for repairs of the internet, Wi-Fi system, electronics and equipment for classrooms and other instructional or research facilities
Work with unit leaders and dean for office space assignments and issue keys to personnel as needed
Ensures that mail and other communications with the university are completed on a daily basis
Participates and is a member of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) Board and the College Executive Leadership
Council
Participates on college and university committees and other service projects
Works with the dean, VTH director, VTH administrator to create and maintain a marketing plan for the hospital.
Promotes effective relationships among a diverse faculty, staff and students.
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
Bachelor’s degree, however, an advanced degree in administration or related discipline is preferred
Must understand operations of a veterinary medical facility with at least two-years of experience in a veterinary or other medical healthcare facility, however, three years of experience in a non-veterinary-related healthcare facility is acceptable
Previous administrative employment in academia or business organization including supervisory experience
Experience with maintenance of facilities and supervision of personnel
