About the job

As Deputy General Counsel you will report to the Chief Legal Officer, helping to drive organizational strategy, serving as a trusted right hand on numerous key initiatives, and directly overseeing multiple functional areas, including legal operations and product counseling. In this role, you will interact with and advise Twilio’s senior executives, members of its Board of Directors, and key external stakeholders. 

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Develop influential relationships, mutual trust, and collaborative partnerships within the Legal Leadership Team, as well as with senior leaders, engineers, product designers, and business partners throughout the company;
  • Serve as a collaborative partner and advisor to the Chief Legal Officer on all strategic matters related to legal, compliance, regulatory, and government relations matters;
  • Drive operational efficiency and effectiveness throughout the Twilio legal team;
  • Continue to develop product counseling as a function, building upon a strong existing foundation to create a respected team of legal partners counseling our R&D organization on a broad spectrum of issues;
  • Respectfully lead, motivate, and manage both in-house and outside counsel to efficiently execute Twilio’s legal and business strategies; and
  • Serve as a thought leader on Twilio’’s business plans, product roadmaps, and go-to-market strategies.

Required:

  • 12 years of experience handling complex legal matters in the technology sector, with 6 years in-house at a technology company;
  • Substantial experience managing a team of legal professionals and scaling legal processes to support a global business;
  • Deep understanding of multiple legal subject matter areas relevant to Twilio’s business, including privacy, data protection, content moderation, and other regulatory topics;
  • Ability to drive impact and navigate competing priorities while remaining collaborative and inclusive;
  • Passion to understand Twilio’’s products, customers, culture, and business; 
  • High emotional IQ and team-first attitude; and
  • JD or equivalent from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

 

Desired:

  • Experience with SaaS, data analytics, privacy, cybersecurity and/or a technical background are each a plus.

 

Location 

This role will be remote, we are open to locations in which Twilio has a presence.

  • The estimated pay range for this role, based in Colorado, is $420,000 - $ 525,000.
  • Sales Commission: Additionally, this role is eligible to earn commissions and eligible to participate in Twilio's equity plan.
  • Non-Sales: Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Twilio's equity plan.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state. This role is also eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.
